The next morning, I looked to see the hourglass, in hopes I didn't affect our position too much. Due to the golden trio's misfortune, Hufflepuff moved up to 2nd place, despite our loss of points. Ravenclaw now being 3rd and Slytherin had stayed in first. Which I thankfully sighed out at. Of course, people were still upset with me but they seemed to get over it, focusing more on how the Gryffindors moved to last place.
"Hey, Abbot!" I hear someone call out to me, I see Diggory waving me down. I go to him and ask what's up."I heard you managed to lose 50 points! Care to explain?" He muses, obviously not upset but more curious. I smile sheepishly and nod.
"I was out late past curfew, I was umm...doing some thinking by the black lake?" I say hopefully he'll buy my lie. I'm sure Hagrid wouldn't want people talking about him having a dragon.
"Thinking huh?" He quirks an eyebrow.
"Yeah...some friendship stuff. School too. You know how it is" I chuckle hesitantly. "I was there and just lost track of time and fell asleep. Then when I noticed I tried to sneak back but got caught my McGonagall." I smile softly. He nods in understanding and we chat for the rest of breakfast.
I spent the rest of the day doing homework and passing time with Diggory till it was time for detention. I couldn't help but wonder what they'll have us do.
-Later-
Beneath a pale moon, Filch was carrying a lantern, leading us across the dark grounds.
"A pity they let the old punishments die.Was a time, when detention would find you all hanging by your thumbs in the dungeons" He laughs out greedily. I shiver at the thought, displeased with the imaginary in my head.
According to Hermione, they would be taking us into the dark forest. Which made me question the morals of the school. They had said we weren't allowed in here but apparently, it was okay if we were being punished.
As we reach the yard, we see Hagridstringing a crossbow, with Fang at his side.
"A sorry lot this, Hagridw I pity you." Filch squints, and sees tears running down Hagrid's face. "Good god, man, you're not still on aboutthat bloody dragon, are you?"
Hagrid turns towards us. "Norbert's gone. Dumbledore's sent 'im offter Romania ter live in a colony." He sniffled.
"Well, that's good, isn't it? He'll bewith his own kind. Better all around, don't you think Especially for Fang." I say trying to comfort the embodiment of a teddy bear. Hearing his name, a singed Fang beats his bandaged tail.
"But what if Norbert doesn't like Romania? What if the other dragons are mean tohim? He's only a baby, after all."
"A baby that breathes fire." Harry elbows Ron, silencing him.
"For god's sake, pull yourself together, man. You're going into the Forest, afterall. Got to have your wits about you." Filch lectures him. I think this is his way of showing he cares.
"The Forest? But I thought that was just ajoke. We can't go in the Forest. Students aren't allowed. And there's... werewolves..." Dracos whines out, obviously scared. I giggle lightly at this. All bark no bite that one.
"Oh, there's more'n werewolves in thosetrees, lad. You can be sure o' that." Filch chuckles creepily, obviously enjoying his fear.
We then trail after Hagrid down a skinny path through the dark trees. Hagrid turns to Harry and speaks low.
"Sorry abou' this, Harry. Know it's me that deserves punishin', not you. Byall rights, I should be sittin' in acell in Azkaban tonight."
"It's all right, Hagrid. Besides, it's not your fault we were out afterhours. If we hadn't come knocking on your door in the middle of the night-" Harry gets cut off when Hagrid kneels, and takes something onto his fingers."
