The sun dipped lower in the sky, casting a warm, golden light over the grassy hill behind their school. The gentle breeze rustled the leaves of nearby trees, and the distant chatter of other students added a soft backdrop to the tranquility of the afternoon.

Twelve-year-old Taehyung lay sprawled comfortably on the grass, his back nestled against a large oak tree. His arms were folded behind his head, and he stared up at the sky with a relaxed expression. His face was framed by tousled brown hair, and his usual confident demeanor was softened by the casual setting.

Ten-year-old Jungkook sat beside him, propped up on one elbow and leaning against Taehyung’s side. He held a comic book open in front of him, his eyes darting across the colorful pages. His dark hair, still shaggy and tousled from a day of play, fell over his forehead as he flipped through the book with an excited grin.

“Hey, Taetae,” Jungkook said, his voice breaking the peaceful silence. He glanced up at Taehyung, his eyes bright with mischief. “Remember when we used to build sandcastles? We should totally do that again.”

Taehyung chuckled, his laughter soft and easy as he turned his head to look at Jungkook. “We’re a bit old for that now, Koo,” he said with a teasing tone. “How about a trip to the beach instead? We can build the biggest sandcastle ever.”

Jungkook’s eyes lit up with enthusiasm. “Really? That sounds awesome! It’ll be just like old times,” he said, his excitement palpable.

Taehyung’s playful smile widened as he raised one eyebrow. “By the way, since I’m older, you should call me Hyung,” he said, trying to sound authoritative but failing to suppress a grin.

Jungkook rolled his eyes dramatically, his lips curving into a smirk. “Oh, come on, Taetae. We’ve been through this. You’re always going to be Taetae to me.”

Taehyung groaned, putting on a show of exasperation. “Seriously, Koo, I’m twelve now! I should at least get a bit of respect.”

Jungkook nudged Taehyung playfully with his elbow, his eyes twinkling with amusement. “Respect? Ha! You’ll always be Taetae to me, no matter how old you get. And you’re just going to have to deal with it.”

Taehyung shook his head, pretending to surrender. “Fine, fine. But just so you know, I’m still going to insist on being called Hyung. Maybe one day you’ll say it.”

Jungkook laughed, leaning back against Taehyung, the warmth of his friend’s side comforting. “Yeah, right. Maybe in another ten years or so. For now, it’s Taetae and that’s final.”

The two boys fell into a comfortable silence, their easy camaraderie evident in the way they continued to sit together. The sun bathed them in its golden glow, casting long shadows on the grass and highlighting the peaceful scene.

Jungkook broke the silence, his voice softer now. “It’s amazing how much we’ve grown, isn’t it? But I’m really glad we’ve stuck together through all this time.”

Taehyung turned his head to look at Jungkook, his eyes reflecting the warmth of their long friendship. “Me too, Koo. It’s pretty incredible that we’ve kept our promise. Even if you won’t call me Hyung.”

Jungkook grinned, giving Taehyung a playful nudge. “You know, I wouldn’t have it any other way. You’re always going to be Taetae to me.”

The late afternoon sun continued to cast its golden light over the hill, the surrounding trees swaying gently in the breeze. The two boys, now best friends, sat side by side, sharing laughter and memories. Their friendship, much like the sandcastles they once built, had grown stronger and more enduring with time. As they talked about future adventures and bickered over nicknames, it was clear that their bond was as unbreakable as ever, promising many more years of shared joy and laughter.

The late afternoon sun filtered through the trees, casting long, dappled shadows across the park where Taehyung and Jungkook sat on their usual bench. At fifteen and seventeen, they were still as close as ever, but something had shifted subtly between them.

Jungkook, now taller and more mature, sat with his legs stretched out in front of him, flipping through a magazine. Taehyung, leaning casually against the backrest, looked at his friend with a fond smile. His hair, still styled with its usual flair, framed his face as he watched Jungkook with an affectionate gaze.

“Hey, Koo,” Taehyung began, trying to sound casual. “You know, since I’m older now, you should really start calling me Hyung. It’s only right.”

Jungkook barely looked up from the magazine, his lips curling into a playful smirk. “Oh, come on, Taetae. We’ve been through this. You’re always going to be Taetae to me.”

Taehyung rolled his eyes in mock frustration. “Seriously, Koo. I’m seventeen now. Just once, call me Hyung.”

Jungkook laughed, shaking his head. “No way. You’ll always be Taetae, and that’s final.”

Taehyung sighed dramatically but couldn’t help smiling at the familiar banter. “Fine, fine. But one day, you’ll see the wisdom in calling me Hyung.”

Jungkook just grinned, turning his attention back to the magazine. However, the playful mood was interrupted when he noticed a group of girls approaching Taehyung. They were giggling and flirting, their eyes sparkling as they talked to him.

Jungkook’s heart sank, a pang of jealousy twisting in his chest. He tried to focus on the magazine, but the sight of Taehyung chatting animatedly with the girls, his easy smile and relaxed demeanor, made it hard to concentrate.

Taehyung, oblivious to Jungkook’s discomfort, laughed at something one of the girls said. “Oh, really? That’s so funny!” he said, his eyes shining with genuine amusement.

Jungkook’s grip on the magazine tightened. He felt a strange, uncomfortable feeling at the back of his mind. It was the same feeling he’d experienced when he saw Taehyung with other boys who tried to flirt with him. He tried to push the feeling away, but it lingered stubbornly.

When the girls finally left, Taehyung turned back to Jungkook, still smiling. “Sorry about that, Koo. They’re always so chatty. I didn’t mean to distract you.”

Jungkook tried to force a smile, but his voice was sharper than he intended. “It’s fine. Just—don’t let them bother you.”

Taehyung looked at him with a hint of concern. “Are you okay? You seem a bit off.”

Jungkook shrugged, trying to mask his feelings. “I’m fine. Just tired, I guess.”

Taehyung nodded, still watching him with a worried expression. “Alright. But if you need to talk about anything, I’m here.”

Jungkook appreciated the offer but didn’t know how to express what he was feeling. Instead, he changed the subject. “So, what do you want to do later? We could go get some ice cream or something.”

Taehyung’s smile returned, his concern fading. “Ice cream sounds perfect. Let’s go.”

As they stood up and began walking toward their favorite ice cream shop, Jungkook couldn’t shake the feeling of jealousy that had surfaced. He tried to focus on enjoying their time together, but the realization of his deepening feelings for Taehyung weighed heavily on his mind.

Taehyung remained blissfully unaware of the internal struggle Jungkook was facing, seeing him as his little Koo, his best friend. As they walked side by side, their familiar banter and easy companionship filled the air, but the unspoken tension lingered between them, hinting at the complexities of growing up and the changing dynamics of their relationship.
