Six Months earlier...
Ayumu POV
"Hiya!" I screamed.
"Gah!" my sparring partner groaned.
Just like that, I won the sparring session.
"You're getting better, the both of you! Maki, even though you lost, you now know that you need to work on blocking! And Ayumu, while you did win, you still need to work on dodging strikes and aiming your punches better!" the sensei requested.
"T-Thank you, sensei!" Maki and me exclaimed.
While sensei walks over to another pair of students sparring, I step outside with Maki to catch my breath.
"Aiming punches? I feel like I do that just fine though." I sighed.
"I think it's more of a... like... preventing me from dodging thing. Ya know~?" Maki tried to explain.
"Hm. I guess so. You still need to get better at blocking! For a person who can land a mean palm strike, you really like pretending you're a deer in headlights." I jested.
*Smack*
"Oh, shut it! Don't come at me with your weak ass jabs!" Maki countered.
*Smack*
"Weak ass jabs? Even a cripple could kick harder than you!" I fought back.
*Smack*
"Teh heh! Good one!" Maki laughed.
"Thanks! For real though, good job on todays session!" I thanked.
"It's nothing~! Besides, we probably would have fought better if we fought our usual partners. The fights between you and Hiroki needs to be studied!" Maki said.
"We only fight like that because we have been going at it since elementary school." I elaborated.
"Yeah... hey, why was he not here today? He never misses his weekly sessions." Maki concerned.
"He said that there was an emergency. Hopefully nothing too serious. He did say he would try to meet with me when I finished my sparring, so I got that to wait for." I explained.
"Alright, alright. Do you wanna pick some snacks? Even after all that fighting, my biggest opponent will always be my stomach!" Maki stated.
"I'll get a rain check on that. I have to wait to see what happened to Hiroki. I'm slightly concerned." I replied.
"Heh! Slightly concerned? Don't act like you don't have the hots for him! Get a room already~!" Maki exclaimed.
"Nuh uh! I got no feelings for him! We're just friends!" I rebuttled.
"Sure. Now you're just friends! But not for long~! I bet twenty bucks that you will end up with him!" Maki offered.
I shake her hand.
"Deal! Just expect to never get that twenty!" I roared.
"Oh~? That twenty is calling for me, Ayumu~! It's begging to be at my beck and call~!" Maki responded before walking off.
...
After Maki left, I sat and played on my phone while I waited for Hiroki to show up.
It's a little later than when he said that he would appear, but hopefully it's just a little delay.
"Ayumu~!" a familiar voice chirped.
I look up from my phone to see my best friend.
I naturally get up and give him a hug.
