song: Billie Eilish - wildflower

"I need you"

Those words lingered through my brain like it was the only thing I could hear.

She needed me.

Mikaili Rivers needed me, and I was the only person she needed.

It probably shouldn't even mean much to me, but it did. It meant a whole fucking lot to me.

It made my cheeks red and hands feel prickly on the tips at the thought of her needing me. The thought of her ever wanting me or even needing me made me feel so much I couldn't even put it in words.

"Matthew?" Mikaili's voice lingered over the call. Her voice soft and delicate like a dove.

"Matthew" her voice louder then earlier and more serious as well "are you going to come around or?"

"I'll be there" I quickly answered before hanging up on her. I scurried around my room like some headless chicken, trying to find a pair of jeans and hoodie.

Grabbing a pair of plaid jeans and a grey hoodie, I ran to my bathroom to quickly comb out my hair.

Checking myself out if I was decent enough, I lazily through on my sneakers before jolting towards the door.

The TV was on meaning Max had company.

Said company being Lloyd, they waved a hand over to me, almost as if they were inviting me over to join them.

"Big bro, come watch the game with us" Max cheered sounding almost to happy. My face morphing into a look of quilt and sorrows, I almost felt bad by the number of times I've bailed on him.

I've seen him far less these days, and I was sure he already was suspecting something. Especially since he already made an assumption that one unforgettable morning.

"Can't Max, I'm going out" I mumbled quickly under my breath. His eyes furrowed and his mouth frowning along with it "what why?" He asked.

This caused Lloyd to raise his head as well with a small frown along his lips.

"I feel like I'm seeing you less than I should" he mumbled into the eerily quiet air "who's this mystery woman you're off to see again? She must be special if you aren't going to hang out with me" he lightly humoured, trying to make the room less quiet.

"She is special, but right now I can't say anything" I quietly offered with a pathetic smile crossing my face.

"Mhm" max hummed with eyes slightly narrowing "well tell this mystery woman I say hello, and I'd like to meet her one day" he grinned before sitting down on the couch again.

Lloyd only smiled before looking back to the large TV that sat across our painted wall.

Staring at the back of my brother's head, I couldn't help but feel so guilty because he'd never get the chance to actually meet her.
