Have you ever wondered why people never get to live for eternity?
I think about it sometimes.
I ponder about how life is supposed to be lived. Like what family or what country on the globe we are born into. What beliefs we are raised on and what types of people surround us throughout our lives.
All of this plays a part in who we will become.
What's the meaning of this thing called life?
Many people make their mark in the world by creating a school for children who were born far from what many people would consider normal.
Some people do ballet. Some people play sports. Some people become the president. Some people study hard and create various ideas that lead them down very big career paths. Like a scientist. Or a psychiatrist, for example.
There are plenty of people who come into this world and just know what they want from life. Like being a nurse, a teacher or even a professional athlete.
But regardless of what you choose, it's never easy no matter which path you go down. Yes, some people take the easy way out but it still takes a toll on the mind eventually.
But the point I'm trying to make is that life isn't guaranteed to everyone. Today you're here and in the next second you just leave this world without any warning. Or for some people, they live their lives locked away from the rest of the world and time flies. Next thing they know, their existence just goes poof in the breath of the wind.
Today you're here wasting away your days and then the next ten years go by and you just stop suddenly and reminisce on the time you wasted. Wishing that you had made some better decisions and wishing that you could get back some of that wasted time. Or that you could just rewind time.
But what if life is way more than just making your mark in this broken, confusing and often lonely world?
What if the reason we make our mark in this world is because deep down inside of us we long for something better than what we have now?
No matter how much riches one person gains or how little riches one has, there's always going to be a cavernous hole inside of him or her that needs filling.
What if we long for forever because down in the deepest nook and crannies of our hearts, we know that maybe, just maybe, our minuscule lives were destined to be a part of something bigger?
What if we long for eternity because there's a deeper meaning to our existence?
Like the quest to find love?
Even if you don't long for it in this life it still feels good to have at least one person in your corner thinking about you and your best interests.
What if love is part of the answer to the constantly pondered question of 'why do we venture through this complicated system called life'?
I felt like I was treading through dangerous waters, just ready to sink at any given moment.
The skin of my palms smoothed over the surface of my kneecaps, peeling and dusting off grass that had unwelcomingly glued itself to me earlier when I had tried to leave.
I was tempted to nibble down on my nails and have stray pieces of keratin flying all over the place like characters usually seem to do when they're nervous in those exaggerated cartoons.
