My body hits the ground and I panted desperately, struggling to taste the sweet nectar of oxygen.

I breathed in and in and in.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

My back arched off the floor.

My eyes ran water.

My throat got dryer with each passing second.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

What is happening to me?

"H-help."

I tried to speak but I could only mouth the words. No sound escaped the clutches of my throat.

The silence was deafening and my body was crippled.

The warm liquid escaping my eyes notified me that I was indeed still alive. But an inkling of something enshrouded by a curtain of loneliness, pain and misery peeked through. Sparking a fiery glimmer of hope.

"Vannessa?"

I could see that the blurry view was becoming a little more h. But still, I struggled to breathe. I sucked in another mouthful of air but yet again, there was no way of releasing it.

"V-Vannessa!"

I jolted at the sensation of something warm invading the surface of my hand.

"Doctor! Doctor!"

My heart rate accelerated and I was panting heavily. I gripped my chest and glancing around wildly.

"W-what's happening," I queried.

Everything appeared blurry.

"It's ok," a sweet voice cooed from beside me.

Squeezing my hand, I could feel my heart beating to a slower rhythm as something warm caressed my forehead. Along with my heart becoming calmer by the second, my wild, heightened emotions followed closely behind.

Suddenly everything cleared and a wave of unspeakable anger slammed right into me as I became more alert.

"Ssshhh, it's alright sweetheart. You're safe now. Everything will be jus-"

I yanked my hand towards me, scurrying out of the blue sheets and closer to the bed head behind me. I glanced around wildly. I could hear a horrible beeping around me.

"Why is everything so bright?"

Automatically, my hands flew up to shield my eyes from the atrocious sight. Then everything flooded back to mind. My crusty eyes adjusted to the ghastly view and I rubbed them.

I saw the doctor from earlier add something to the bag hanging over my hospital bed. Which caused my heart to end its frantic pounding against my chest, following a steady beat. I could hear the machinery beside me adopting a calm rhythm as the horrid beeping softened.

The doctor left after mumbling a few words and my eyes narrowed.

"What are you doing here?"

There was just absolute silence as four identical eyes connected dangerously.

"Look, Vannessa. I know that we have some things to work through and I haven't exactly been mother of the year but let's forget about all that now and focus on your health."
