Despite all the life altering, potential world ending events that Jaimie knew were in her very near future, the only thing she could think about at the moment was how much she hated supersuits.
Sure, they're great in theory. It was great to fight in as Jaimie had discovered during her first few outings in it. Certainly less clunky than Greek armour. Better than scrubs, which she had unfortunately had to fight her fair share of monsters in.
But by the gods, was it tight. You don't really think about it often, but wearing the suit has made Jaimie wonder just how many wedgies Superman would get. Probably a lot.
But Bruce could enjoy the view, she supposed. Or at least that was what Natasha said when Jaimie had asked the spy how she managed to look so graceful in a super suit as tight as latex.
Now, usually, this wouldn't be relevant since Bruce hadn't ever been out with Jaimie in the field before, but for this last raid things have changed. And Jaimie could tell Bruce was getting nervous about it.
They were sitting next to each other on the jet as they made their way to the last Hydra base they could find connected to the demigod project, and Jaimie could see Bruce's knee bounce up and down, although he was trying to remain nonchalant.
"Bruce," Jaimie whispered, despite her own overwhelming nerves. She hoped she was quiet enough for the others not to overhear, "Are you alright?"
She wasn't going to tell him to relax, that advice is pretty universally useless.
His head whipped to her, almost as if he had forgotten she was sitting right next to him. He gave her an incredibly unconvincing smile before nodding. "I'm alright, it's just been awhile."
Jaimie sighed, but didn't contradict him, instead resting her head against his shoulder. She felt his head rest against hers just a moment later. "You know, you'll probably end up being very bored. Sitting in here the whole time, twiddling your thumbs."
Bruce hummed quietly. "Yeah, probably."
But they both knew that was likely a lie. At this point, Hydra was well aware that the Avengers would be coming to shut this operation down. It would be surprising if they hadn't already alerted other sects of the organization about Project Demigod and everything they had been doing, abandoning security in favour of bolstering the defences of this particular base, ironically located in Texas, Jaimie's home state.
Jaimie could only hope they kept this to themselves. She knew that the higher-ups of Hydra wouldn't take well to the project failing so spectacularly, and she was sure the "scientists" who were experimenting on the demigods knew this as well.
But even still, Bruce and Jaimie both knew that this base was going to be heavily defended. More so than all of the other bases they managed to get the jump on. So Bruce had come along with them, already preparing himself for the fact that he was likely going to have to transform into a green, angry, battering ram. But he was okay with that, if it meant helping Jaimie and the demigods.
Didn't mean he was looking forward to it, though.
They didn't say anything else, both too stressed out about the coming events to string together any words of comfort for the other. They both knew this though, so instead they took comfort in each other's touch, interlocking their fingers together and squeezing tightly.
They stayed like that, heads rested against each other, hands interlocked soaking up the tense silence of the rest of the team, until the jet dropped quite suddenly and aggressively.
There were scattered yells and curses before Natasha righted the plane again, swearing heavily.
"What was that?" Jaimie asked, rather needlessly.
