The dog just shat on the floor.
Another kitten died alone.
The ads won't stop,
The complaints won't stop,
The phone is too slow.
Funny how even the smallest match can burn down an entire forest.
I guess it happens to us all.
Eventually pretending gets exhausting
and
The truth slips off our tongues.
Sharp and explosive,
Vile and horrid,
The product of compromise and long accepted silence.
"Enough is enough!" we say
We grab the pitchforks and the torches
Ready to take what is due,
Ready to spit in the face of promised paradise,
But then thought catches up (just like it always does)
Common sense takes her rightful place on the throne.
We are left wondering why.
Like a drunkard being awoken by frigid water.
The grip loosens,
The surroundings mellow down on the red,
Distracted.
Whittled to fit.
Awake.
Ah. Maybe next time.
