KHUMO

Close friends like how close were they?

I repeated in my head there was no way she could be friends with someone like Sanele. I mean I'm he's wife and I could barely tolerate his behavior. Could she be Sanele's ex.

No I need to stop thinking about her.
After having coffee I made it back to my rounds. There was this one patient that was close to my heart.

Katlego. He's nine and he's in for a heart transplant surgery and his parents are nervous but I reassured him and his parents that he's in good hands.

"Dr Modise the theater room is ready."

I walked over to the changing tables my team of nurses helped me suit up. I made sure my gloves had no holes, my mask was on properly and my gown was tightly wrapped around my body.

"Katlego Boseman a 9 year old boy who has been battling with congestive heart failure" My assistant nurse Didi briefed me as we hurry inside the room.

It was sad to hear that such a young soul was suffering from something like this and has to go through a surgery like a heart transplant.

Katlego was already under anesthesia, all my tools were already set up. I connected the left ventricular assist device which will take over the functions of his heart while I do the surgery.

When they bought the heart from the donar in a OCS container. I wondered who's heart this belonged too?

What happened to the owner of the heart. Did they make the decision to donate their body parts to the hospital? Did their loved ones have a say?

I picked up the heart carefully. As I transferred the heart. The surgery went well with no complications. And it was time to deliver the good news.

I removed my gloves, mask and gown washed my hands and made my way towards the waiting area. I had to inform his family that he made it through the surgery with no complications. I immediately recognized his family.

I cleared my throat to make my presence known, they all turned to face me.

"Your son made it through the surgery with no complications, everything went smoothly." I told them and they sighed with relief. The mother even said a small prayer.

"When can we see him." The father asked.

"He's currently in our recovery room you'll be able to see him once he recovers."

"Thank you for saving my son Dr.Modise." The mother thanks me hugging me and I awkwardly returned the hug back.

The day was finally over and I can finally go back home, drink a glass of wine and wait for Sanele wondering what mood would he be in today. I made sure everything was locked up in my office and I said a couple goodbyes to the nurses.

I grabbed my keys and further into the packing lot. I tried opening but failed, my keys fell and I bent to pick them up. I heard someone breathing behind me. I turned around quickly, my heart was beating fast that I held it against my chest.

"Geez, you scared me." I whispered once I saw who it was. It was Dr Shabalala the new doctor that just joined them.

"Sorry I didn't mean to scare you." His smile revealed his dimples.

"It's fine Doc. So how can I help you." I asked.

"Well for starters please call me Zola and I was wondering if I can take you out for lunch someday."

I stared at him in disbelief does he not know that I'm particularly someone's wife or is he being ignorant.

"As in like a date?" I whisper.
