CHAPTER TWELVE
act one . infant and innocent

── ୨୧ ──

ALAENA SAT ON HER BED, she had went to maester Orwyle. It was the morrow of her named day, she was with child.

Helaena was right. Alaena stared at the stone wall in front of her, her legs pulled up to her chest as she had a tear fall from her eye. Alaena played with the ring Helaena got her for her name day.

She had hoped for Helaena to be wrong, for once, that the voices that Alicent or anyone doesn't believe in, to be wrong.

"Princess?" Elaena's voice snapped the princess out of her thoughts, "Elaena, come in."

The handmaiden walked in with the queen whom wore all green, "Your grace," Alaena looked down, more looking at her stomach that was growing a child inside, "Crying isn't good for princesses," Alicent jested but Alaena didn't smile, she barely grinned.

"I had spoken to the maester... and heard the wonderful news," Alicent sighed, Alaena nodded, "Does- did anyone tell Aegon?" Alaena's first words were and Alicent shook her head, "I don't believe he knows, shall you wish to tell?" Alicent asked and Alaena nodded.

"The king and I wished you congratulations, and hope for the best..." Alicent smiled, but behind her smile held pity for the young girl, knowing the feeling of being with child at such a young age, and being forced to be in childbirth.

After the queen left her chambers, Alaena moved over to the desk, and grabbed parchment and a quilt, and began writing to her mother all the way in Dragonstone.

"My dearest mother,
I do hope this finds you well, I do have some news to share, not very happy news, well not happy for me, unfortunately... I am with child, newly. I had went to the maester, and he congratulated me. You shall be a grandmother, unsure of what it is, I do wish for a girl, but I do not wish to see it through, it scares me, mother. and not having you by my side is scary, maybe i'm more scared of the childbirth, or afraid of raising my child wrong, it's unclear to me. But I do hope I hear from you soon mother.

your dearest and only daughter Alaena."

THE HOUR GREW LATE, Aegon sat in the bed, shirtless.

As Alaena laid on her side, away from Aegon, "You know... my father seemed to happy today, I wonder why..."

Alaena sighed, before turning over to face Aegon whom looked down at her, "I know."

Aegon titled his head confused, "We knew this would happen-" Before she could even say the words Aegon looked down at her stomach, "-You're?"

She nodded slowly, and Aegon's face was unreadable, he looked from her stomach to her face and he stood up, "I need wine," Aegon spoke getting out of bed and to the table with a gallon of wine, to pour himself wine and Alaena sat up, "Are you angry?" She asked and he shook his head.

"Of course not, it's just- I know we both didn't wish for this, and now we are forced to go through this together."

Alaena nodded, glad he wasn't angry, "The king is very happy," Aegon rolled his eyes, taking a sip of wine, "Of course he is, he got what he wanted."

ONE MOON LATER, Just as Alicent set up, Helaena and Aemond wedding, it was beautiful, watching Helaena dressed in green. Alaena's stomach hadn't changed much, barely a bump. Which she was thankful for.

Helaena and Aemond had a wedding feast as did Alaena and Aegon. And during the feast Alaena could tell Helaena was miserable, and the two shared a dance like old times, which enlightened her mood, and Alaena whispered to her to make her laugh, and smile. But not before Helaena whispered a certain, "I told you..." And Alaena knew, Helaena knew she was with child and Alaena smiled and nodded.

But soon after their dance the king had other ideas and the ceremony began soon after.

Alaena stood on one side, with her husband. Aegon. Alicent stood on the other side, with Viserys, as Helaena and Aemond held hands, they were in the throne room, the lights were dim and Helaena kept glancing at Alaena and her mother, panic within her eyes.

The septon stood behind them, with the seven gods book, "One flesh, one heart, one soul, now and forever..." The septon spoke as Helaena and Aemond had pledged to each other.

Alaena knew what's next, bedding one another. Helaena knew the look on Alaena's face wasn't right, and she soon realized, Alicent and Viserys sent Helaena and Aemond to their newly shared chambers, that Viserys had prepared that night.

Alaena and Aegon had retired to their bed chambers, and Alaena kept pacing around, "You know, pacing isn't going to help anything..." Aegon mumbled and Alaena turned to him, "Helaena is a child, she shouldn't be forced to do such a thing..." Aegon looked down, "We were."

Alaena sighed nodding, "But it's Helaena, such a pure soul," Aegon nodded and he stood up and stood in front of her, "She will soon look-" Alaena sighed, "As I do."

Aegon looked down at her stomach, it was such a small bump that Aegon couldn't tell if she even had a child inside, "You don't look..." He didn't finish before Alaena moved to get out of her dress, "Maester Orwyle says I won't start showing until four moons."

Alaena slipped into their bed, with Aegon still at the end of it, "The poor girl..." Alaena whispered and she knew Helaena probably hated every moment of this night, every young girl must hate this moment.

Aegon took his shirt off, and slipped into bed beside her, "She will be alright wife, believe me," Alaena turned onto her side to look at him and he placed his hand on her face caressing her face, "Aegon you don't know her like I do..." Aegon sighed, "You two have this unspoken bond, blah blah blah..." Aegon mocked, what he'd heard from his mother many times, "Aegon, i'm being serious!" Aegon smiled, "I never jest about such things."

Alaena rolled her eyes at him and turned over, but unknown to them that on the following morrow, they were asleep in each others arms.
