CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN
act three . the mad queen

── ୨୧ ──

ALAENA stepped into her chambers, her eyes landing on her crippled husband, whom she heard was awake, but remembers nothing of the battle at rooks rest. Or it is said.

She heard his groans, and Alaena rushed over to him, "Husband, i'm here," She whispered and he opened his eye, "Alaena?"

"Yes, it's your wife," She got him a cup of water, as she placed the cup to his lip for him to drink.

She placed the cup down after he was done, she took a seat, in the chair. Alaena reached for his hand that wasn't burnt, "I was so worried, you were dead," She whispered as she placed a soft kiss upon his hand.

"I- I told you, I would come back," He groaned as he spoke, "Yes, you did."

THAT late evening, Alaena entered Helaena's chambers thinking she would be here only to find Aemond, stalking around the chamber.

"Ah, you."

Alaena glared daggers at him, "Aemond," She spoke coldly, "How's your husband of yours?" He asked, a question that had a meaning behind it, Aemond knew she was on edge, that the madness began to spread within her, as she didn't get much sleep of late.

"You. You did all of this!" She stalked towards him, as she stood face to face with him, he towered over her, a smirk on his face, but his jaw was tight.

"For you to say such a thing..." He spoke, anger rising in his voice, she stared into his one lasting eye, "I'll take vengeance," She whispered, "For those who I desire..."

"Starting with you," She spoke and Aemond clenched his jaw, his eyes burning into hers, "I should have you killed."

Alaena stood strong, she whispered to him, "It wouldn't alterations things. I will have my vengeances Aemond. An eye for an eye right?"

She went to turn to leave when he grabbed her arm, hard, she groaned and leaned forwards.

"I will have you killed!" He spoke, venom in his voice as his eyes burned into her own, "Let go of me Aemond! You foolish boy!" She yelled.

He shook his head, as his grab on her was tightened, "-Uh Alaena?" The soft tone voice of Helaena was heard and the queen turned her head and Aemond let go.

Alaena rubbed where the bruise started forming, "Helaena," She whispered as she moved towards her, "What happe-" Alaena shook her head and Helaena knew she wished out so she left with Alaena. Leaving Aemond to plot.

Down the hall Alaena turned to Helaena as they walked, "With fire and blood right?" She asked and it took Helaena a second to understand what she was asking until it hit her, "Yes, Alaena, with fire and blood. At the hand of someone with silver hair."

ALICENT found the two together, in an empty chamber. Unbothered. Alaena had a small bruise forming on her lower arm as it showed from her wearing nightdress, and Helaena had her hair down and her nightdress on, as she brushed her own hair.

"I've been looking for your whereabouts," Alicent spoke causing the two to look up upon hearing a voice.

Alaena hid her forming bruise as she sat in the chamber chair, "Why must you two hid away most days?" Alicent asked, as she walked toward them, Helaena looked to Alaena, "We don't hid, we.. find ourselves uninterested in this castle of late," Alaena spoke.

A question had been on Helaena's mind for days now, and she turned to her mother asking, "Why does everybody hate us?"

"They're unhappy... and unhappy people look for someone to hate."

"And we didn't even order the blockade," Alaena whispered and Alicent heard, nodding, "No, but we are the crown, so they expect us to break it."

Helaena looked to her lap, "Would to leave this place?" Alicent asked, Alaena frowned, "Where would we go?" Helaena asked, almost intrigued. The doors opened and the one of the guards spoke, "The prince regent, your grace."

Aemond strutted through the door, "Helaena, Alaena, here you are. Mother."

"The crown has need of your service well both of your service," Aemond spoke and Helaena glanced at Alaena whom frowned and glared at Aemond, "Now?" Alicent asked as she looked at her out of control son.

"The Pretender has raised new riders against us, and we must answer in kind," Aemond spoke and Alaena shook her head, "I need you to fly out on Aelorin and Helaena on Dreamfyre to battle."

     Alaena stood up, "No."

    "No?"

    "No."

Aemond didn't like that answer, he stood there with his jaw clenched again, as he wanted to rip out Alaena's heart, that was until he snapped and grabbed onto Alaena's forearm pulling her.

Another bruise forming, "It isn't a question. You whore mother has taken commoners into dragonlords!" Helaena stood up at Alaena groaning, Alicent doing the same as she went to separate Aemond and Alaena, "Aemond!"

"Aemond!" Helaena voiced was heard as she stood steady, "It is a sin and must be punished!"

Once Alicent had managed to get Aemond to let go of Alaena, she held her forearm, and Helaena went to her side, whispering to her.

Alicent got into Aemond's face, "May I remind you she is the queen! More power then you have here Aemond!" Alicent yelled to Aemond.

"As you were once! And you see now what is the consequence of your weakness!" Aemond spoke loudly, he had lost it, as Alaena look through her eyelashes at him, she didn't see the boy she once knew, he was gone.

"You wish to rule the Seven Kingdoms, but you rain ruin and death upon its smallfolk when you've been insulted because it makes you feel strong and now you seek to corrupt your sister wife and your niece-"

Alaena looked upon them as she saw Aemond glancing over to her as she held her forearm still, "Of all our line, the gentlest and most deserving- of your protection!"

"And who will protect them if they cannot protect themselves?" Aemond yelled and Alicent shouted louder, "Who will they be if they lose the best part about themselves!"

"Their mind will be broken! Aemond!"

Aemond shook his head, "Tis no longer our rule that is threatened, our very lives. Would you not have us prevail?"

    "Not like this."

Aemond didn't give in, so Alicent spoke up again, "Not like this."

Until the room was only left with the three woman all dressed in green.
