Myung sits beside Jeongguk's head, holding his son's one hand as the doctor examines his pulses of the other. Jeongguk looks paler laying on the bed almost lifeless but the subtle raise and fall of his chest hinting that his soul hasn't left it's home.
“This is the eleventh case this month itself.” The doctor sighs as he backs away. “Alphas are losing their humanity day by day.”
The look of disapproval he shoots towards Taehyung is not concealed at all and Taehyung stares back at him. He is tired of telling everyone that Jeongguk didn't want him yet everyone is blaming him for something that the omega chose for himself.
“What now?” Myung asks as he kisses his son's knuckles. “When will he wake up?”
“Look, it's a bit complicated but I'll try to make you all understand.” The doctor pinches his nose bridge. “Taehyung has rejected Jeongguk, he rejected his fated omega so now the alpha is mateless.” He says and the word mateless stabs right into Taehyung's chest. “But the omega hasn't— what we can say is— accepted the rejection. Jeongguk's body shut down on a whim to not listen to the rejection. So Jeongguk, the omega still has a mate.”
Taehyung frowns. “What?”
The doctor glares at him. “Since Jeongguk didn't hear the rejection, he isn't mateless you are still his mate but you have rejected him so for you he isn't your mate.” He explains but he is just repeating the same words and Taehyung can barely make sense of it. “The omega didn't want to be rejected so he shut down.”
“What the fuck are you even talking about?!” Taehyung growls as he stands up.
“So, blue eyed has to reject Jeongguk again?” Minrae questions leaning against her mate's arm.
“How would Taehyung reject him when Jeongguk isn't his mate anymore? Rejection can only take place once.” The doctor stresses on his words. “Taehyung is mateless but Jeongguk still has a mate.”
“Usually rejections go fine.” Jung-jae clicks his tongue. “What exactly happened here?”
“Jeongguk didn't want to get rejected.” The doctor yet again specifies.
“That omega had his fuckass guards to beat me up! He threatened me that he'd beat up my sister! You know why?! Because he wanted me to run away from my home! Why?! Because he knew I was his mate! He didn't want me! Do you get that?! He did not want me!” Taehyung yells. He hopes at least his yelling would reach everyone's ears.
Tears still fill Taehyung's eyes pathetically as he glares at the doctor who only looks away in shame. His gaze pins on Myung next, at least the pack leader has the decency to look shameful of his son's actions.
“Why did you reject him?” Areum whispers. “You could have given him a chance to explain.”
“After all that he has done to me do you expect me to still want him? And to explain what? What explanation he must have to subject me to such brutality?” He grits his teeth. “I don't care if he is dying. I'm not mating him.”
“He's not going to die, sir— well not so soon at least.” The doctor clears out seeing how Myung panics holding Jeongguk's hand to his chest. “But… he won't be exactly alive either. The omega shuts down in the hope of their alpha wanting them someday and when they realise it's not going to happen they lose their will to live. We have omegas in our centre, severy depressed and suicidal they only become worst with time. One way or the other they end up killing themselves and there is nothing we can do about it but let it happen.”
Jung-jae hums. “So a slow death?”
“More like we try to prevent death in our centre but it happens anyway. The omegas’ will to die is far too strong.” The doctor seems a bit put off by how casually the omega's uncle is dealing with the serious situation. “For all we know if Jeongguk doesn't see Taehyung in the same space as him as soon as he wakes him he will make an attempt.”
