These vows are fucking bullshit.
Taehyung looks up at the advisor of the leader who handed him the paper, telling him to memorize it and on the stage he has to act like these words are straight spitting from the bottom of his heart at that moment.
“May our child be as serene as you?” Taehyung scoffs as he swats the paper on the desk. “What a load of bullshit, who the fuck is even having children? I'm just twenty-one, why is it written that I aspire to pup him within a year, I don't want to?”
The advisor, Baek Hyujin, commonly referred to as Mr. Baek groans. “Just spit it, boy, nobody is gonna expect a child for you both that soon, it just shows your compassion.”
“Compassion for what? Breeding? Bullshit.” Taehyung stands up. “I'm not saying any of this as my vows.”
“Why are you being so difficult?” Mr. Baek groans, Taehyung must be causing him real stress because Taehyung swears he is seeing a new line on his forehead add to the countless he always has every time he speaks. “Look at, Jeongguk, my beautiful boy, doesn't even have any complaints.”
Taehyung then looks at Jeongguk who is silently reading his vows. “What's in your vows?” He asks but Jeongguk doesn't reply to him so he walks towards the omega to peak only to scoff and give Mr. Baek a defiant look. “His paper is upside down. He hasn't read shit yet.”
“I really need you to control your tongue.” Mr. Baek pinches his nose bridge. “You are going to be a leader, the filth on your tongue is so revolting to hear.”
“I'm a lad from the streets, get used to it.” Taehyung scoffs. “Write me another set of vows that does not involve breeding. Why don't you stick to just wanting to spend life happily and cut it? What's your fixation with a pup?”
“Then write it yourself!” Mr. Baek stands up with a huff. “I'm not here to tolerate your tantrums. I have work.” He dusts his suit, the black of the tuxedo literally reflects light. “You have two hours. Suit yourself.”
Taehyung looks at Jeongguk who is just staring at the upside down paper. His eyes are so empty and for the entirety of time he hasn't blinked even once.
It reminds him how Myung had described his views over his mate, Areum always having dark eyes or something about the concealed sadness he really doesn't remember clearly— too many thoughts are swimming in his head already— but he sees how Jeongguk resonates with the qualities.
Empty eyes, the darkness in them.
There is no life behind Jeongguk's eyes.
He hasn't really seen Jeongguk smiling. Maybe he has but it isn't a real smile, it's just a quirk of lips and he has only seen it directed to his father.
Myung adores Jeongguk and it's obvious the omega cares for his father just as much but Jeongguk really doesn't seem to have the same compassion towards his mother while Areum fawns over him. Definitely, Areum isn't a bad mother, she loves Jeongguk but her son doesn't return that sentiment, he has seen the way the omega stares at his mother with nothing less than dearniness.
It's like Jeongguk doesn't even care about his mother, more like despises her.
Not even to talk about Jung-jae, the uncle. Jeongguk just recoils whenever that man is around and for the past few hours the man has been on the door at least over five times. He says nothing, just stands at the door, stares at Jeongguk before he glances at Taehyung's way and walks away. He hears Jeongguk take in a sharp breath and just overall stop breathing when the man is around and he only breathes when Jung-jae is gone.
With the little information Taehyung has got from the passing maids and servants, Jung-jae was the younger brother— just by a minute. A minute was important enough for him to not be the heir of the pack house which made it fall on Myung’s shoulders because he was the elder sister's mate.
