I'm sitting in this cold, stark room, my hands shaking as I fidget with the edge of my shirt. The fluorescent lights buzz overhead, adding to the tension that feels like it's pressing down on me. The officer across from me is watching me closely, his notepad ready, but I can barely meet his gaze.
"I didn't mean for it to happen," I blurt out, my voice cracking. "I swear, I didn't. Everything just... everything just got out of hand."
The officer leans forward slightly, his expression serious. "Lucas, we need you to tell us what happened. Start from the beginning."
I nod, trying to steady my racing thoughts. "It all started when I moved here. I was the new kid, trying to fit in, trying to find where I belonged. Tyler and Alec... they were-or at least I thought they were. But things got complicated. I didn't mean for anyone to get hurt. I was just so tired, so tired of putting up with everything."
I run a hand through my hair, frustration spilling out. "Tyler, he was... he was something else. And Alec... Alec was different too, but in a good way. I thought I was finding my place, but then everything went sideways. They started fighting, and I just... I just couldn't take it anymore. I felt like I was caught in the middle, and no matter what I did, someone was going to get hurt."
The officer's voice remains calm, but there's an edge to it. "What happened, Lucas? How did that lead to what happened at the party?"
My breath hitches, and my eyes dart around the room, searching for an escape. "I didn't mean for any of this. I didn't mean for things to go wrong at the party. I was just so exhausted from everything, from feeling like I was being pulled in every direction. I just wanted it to stop. I wanted everything to go back to the way it was, but it was too late. I couldn't stop it, and now... now everything's a mess."
My voice breaks, and I feel tears welling up. I don't want to cry, not here, not in front of them. But the guilt and fear are too much to handle. "I tried to make things right, I tried to fix it, but I couldn't. I just wanted to belong, and now everything is ruined."
The officer leans in closer, his tone firmer. "Lucas, you need to focus. We need you to tell us exactly what happened at the party. What led up to it?"
"I-I," I stammer, feeling overwhelmed. "I just wanted it to stop. I didn't think... I didn't mean for any of this to happen. I swear, I didn't."
The officer sighs, clearly losing patience. "Lucas, we need you to be honest with us. What happened at the party? What did you do?"
I swallow hard, feeling the weight of the situation crash down on me. I'm trapped, cornered by my own actions and the reality of what unfolded. Even as I try to find the words, the fear of the truth keeps them locked inside. All I can do is sit there, trembling, while the officer's gaze waits for an answer I'm not sure I can give. Well...
