"Maya, listen, it's not what it looks-" I stammered, my voice shaky as I tried to get the words out. But before I could even finish, she slapped me, hard enough to make my head snap to the side. The slap echoed through the hallway, and the entire place went dead silent.

"Were you really about to give me some bullshit about it isn't what it looks like?" she spat, her eyes blazing with anger. "Maya, I'm sorry," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Sorry?" she scoffed, folding her arms across her chest. "Is that the best you can do?"
"Maya, please, let me explain," I pleaded, feeling the weight of everyone's eyes on me, the whispers starting up again as they watched us.
She let out a bitter laugh, shaking her head. "Explain what? How I had to find out from an anonymous page that my boyfriend's been cheating on me and that he's gay?"
"Bi," I corrected weakly, my voice trembling.
"Oh, and that makes the world of a difference, doesn't it? Really changes everything," she shot back, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
I opened my mouth to say something, anything, but nothing came out. I was frozen, the words stuck in my throat, and I could see the disgust in her eyes.
"You know what? I'm glad the truth came out," she said, her voice cold. "You two deserve each other. You're both lying, cheating assholes. So let me do you a favor—you and me? We're done."
She turned on her heel and stormed off, heading back toward Casey, who shot me a glare of her own before they both walked away. I stood there, rooted to the spot, my face burning with embarrassment as I looked around. Everyone in the hallway was pretending not to stare, but I could feel their eyes on me, feel the judgment, the whispers.
The embarrassment sank in, heavy and suffocating. I'd lost everything-Maya, Lucas, any chance of keeping this secret. Now, all I could do was stand there, feeling the weight of my actions crushing me, knowing there was no going back.
I rushed to the bathroom, my footsteps echoing in the empty hallway, desperate to escape the humiliation that had just played out in front of everyone. The door creaked as I pushed it open, and I quickly made my way to the sink, gripping the edge so tightly my knuckles turned white. My reflection stared back at me-flushed cheeks, bloodshot eyes, and a look of utter defeat. My mind was a storm, swirling with anger, shame, and regret.

The door behind me swung open, and I glanced up, catching Nick's reflection in the mirror. He paused in the doorway, surprise flickering across his face before it twisted into a grin.

"Look who it is," Nick said, stepping inside and letting the door close behind him. "Mr. big man on campus, and now... well, look at you."
I gritted my teeth, my hands still gripping the sink. I didn't respond, just stared at him, hoping he'd shut up and leave.
But Nick wasn't done. "How's it feel, Tyler? Knowing everyone's talking about you? Knowing they all know exactly what you are?"
My heart pounded in my chest as his words sank in. He knew. Of course, he knew. "You're the one who posted it," I said, my voice low and filled with accusation.
Nick chuckled, shaking his head. "Yeah, I posted it. I mean, someone had to show Maya what kind of guy she was really dating."
Rage boiled up inside me, and before I could stop myself, I turned and shoved him hard against the door, pinning him there with one hand while my other fist clenched, ready to swing.

"You?" I growled, my voice shaking with barely controlled fury. "You ruined everything?"
Nick's grin only widened, like he was enjoying this. "Do it, Tyler. Come on, maybe if you're man enough, you will."
"Oh yeah?" I snapped, my fist trembling as I held it inches from his face. "Give me one good reason I shouldn't bust your skull right now."
"Because," Nick said, his voice steady and confident, "you know it wouldn't change anything. It wouldn't make what I said any less true. The secret's out, Tyler."
He let the last word hang in the air, then spat out, "Fag."
I froze, the word hitting me like a punch to the gut. My grip on him loosened, and Nick took the opportunity to slip out of my grasp, straightening his shirt as he did.
"You know, I gotta thank you," Nick continued, his tone smug. "At first, I was just going after Lucas because I wanted Casey. But now that things are over with you and Maya, I might have a shot at both."
He chuckled, enjoying my stunned silence. "You see how it all works out, Tyler? You had everything-captain of the basketball team, the hot girl, the status. And now look at you. All it took was pressing one button, and everything you worked so hard for is gone."
I glared at him, my whole body trembling with the need to hit him, to make him pay. But deep down, I knew he was right. Hitting him wouldn't change anything. It wouldn't undo the mess I was in. All I'd be doing was digging my hole even deeper.
So I stood there, my anger simmering, as Nick smirked one last time and walked out of the bathroom, leaving me alone with my shattered reflection and the unbearable weight of everything that had happened.
