''How presumptuous of you to send for your master, Kieran.'' was Raven's first words the second her eyes landed on the back of her grey-haired elite slave.
Her voice got Kieran's attention, and he turned around before acknowledging Raven's presence on his knees. "Master.''
Raven didn't blink her eyes at Kieran's submissive nature. She first looked around and noticed the sense of abandonment in this area. The overgrown weeds, the untrimmed bushes, the cracked walls......Raven was really curious why Kieran had called her to this far neglected part of the manor.
Rather than asking, her attention was shifted to the familiar loose top and bottom on Kieran. Her eyes couldn't help but twitch in distaste. Hadn't she bought some clothes for him? Why was he still in this disgusting pyjamas?
''Kie—'' Just as she wanted to make some remarks, her voice trailed off as her eyes unconsciously glanced at Kieran's side. The sight of a large stone halted her voice, and her eyes widened slightly, particularly the words roughly engraved on the stone.
'JANE.'
That name was engraved on the stone.
The name of her personal maid....as though this was her gravestone.
''Master should punish this slave.'' Kieran's voice drifted to her ears. ''If this slave had used these eyes, perhaps master could have avoided her death.'' He finished and lowered himself the more on his knees. One could say that he was very sincere about his request, including Raven.
''....Is her body in there?'' She murmured after a moment of the stifling silence. In contrast to moments ago, the light in her eyes dimmed, and a sense of melancholy fused with the atmosphere around them.
''Yes Master.''
''....I see.'' The slow words from Raven merged with cool breeze, turning fierce bit by bit around them and the temperature had a sudden drop. Just as she had guessed earlier, the weather was a rainy one, and it didn't take long before water poured down from the heavens.
Raven and Kieran gradually got drenched under the heaven downpour. Their clothes and hair stuck like glue on their bodies. The maid that led Raven to the abandoned area had long been dismissed, leaving the pair of master and slave alone.
''Thank you, Kieran.'' Her words startled Kieran, who slowly lifted his head at her words and closely observed her being. The solemn yet soft tone of her voice was different from its usual playfulness. Her dim eyes, that seemed to have no sense of life, were very different from its usual craftiness.
The confidence that his master always showed was no longer with her....rather she looked lonely. From their interactions so far, this was the first time for Kieran to witness such a sight.
Though he had somewhat guessed it, he was now more than sure that the maid was a special existence to his master.
After all, his master had awakened the power of the Langston family from her death.
Kieran could never forget that day. That scene of murder in the thick forest. The brutal death of those killers and the rage that his master emitted like an inferno that one could never put an end to its flames.
The power of the Langston family.
''This slave found this bracelet on Miss Jane. Master.'' Raven lowered her dull gaze to the wet gold bracelet that Kieran presented before her. Her attention was shortly attracted to intricate and unique designs of birds colored in red.
The bird was a raven....a red raven.
''How foolish of her,'' Raven remarked monotonously as she took the bracelet and wore the jewelry over her wrist. ''A sense of duty lost the only life she had for herself.'' She looked at the glistening bracelet from the downpour and noted how two colors complemented each other.
