"I guess I should stop looking out for you, like I always do. When will you start looking out for me too, instead of leaving my staring at my shoes?" – Looking Out for You (Joy Again)

"Mr Schuester, I have an announcement," Rachel suddenly spoke up as Mr Schue entered the choir room, the rest of the club still busy with their own conversations, "I've selected the perfect moving ballad for Finn and I to sing to launch our performance at sectionals,"

"Me first," Mr Schuester said, effectively cutting her off. At Mr Schuester's words, Violette looked up from where she'd been absentmindedly fiddling with Santana's shoelaces after the girl had comfortably rested her legs in Violette's lap. Turning to her right, Violette found Quinn busy leaning into her boyfriend's hold, the blonde purposefully avoiding her gaze. So, she turned to share a bemused look with Santana, both raising their eyebrows in slight surprise that Mr Schue had silenced his favourite Glee member.

"Two things. First our competition at sectionals are your classic stool choirs. Great voices, but they don't move. Now if we're gonna beat them we need to do what they can't: dance," Mr Schue explained, causing both Violette and Brittany to perk up in excitement, leaning forward so they could enthusiastically grab one another's hands in front of Santana. If there was anything that Violette Donovan and Brittany Pierce both loved, it was to dance.

"Which is why I've decided to feature Brittany and Mike Chang's sweet moves in our performance," Mr Schuester continued. Violette turned to her friend, almost squealing with excitement as she and Santana cheered for Brittany.

"They're gonna dance in front of me while I sing my solo?" Rachel asked in confusion as the rest of the group celebrated. Violette, sitting not far from her ex-girlfriend, heard the words loud and clear. Sometimes, when Rachel said things like that, Violette wasn't sure how they had ever ended up dating.

"You're not getting a solo for this competition Rachel,"

"Finally," Mercedes said happily, "So what song do I get to sing?"

"I was thinking that the winners of our duets competitions would take the leads," Mr Schue said, gesturing to Quinn and Sam. Violette was happy for Quinn, the blonde was an amazing singer after all, but Violette wasn't so sure how she felt about her singing another duet with Sam. Although, she wasn't sure where her hesitance came from. However, quickly became preoccupied with thoughts about how heteronormative Mr Schuester's main pairings for the competition were. Go figure.

"Ken and Barbie?" Rachel questioned in shock, "Wait, are you trying to throw this?"

Before Mr Schuester could speak up, however, Quinn was quick to defend herself. Or rather, quick to insult Rachel right back.

"You used to be just sort of unlikeable but now I pretty much feel like punching you every time you open your mouth."

Violette hid her slight giggle behind her hand as Rachel deflated slightly, both from the comment and the poorly hidden reaction of her ex-girlfriend.

"Okay, listen. I have talked the talk about everyone here feeling special for over a year now, but frankly I haven't walked the walk. I mean we have got a lot of talent here, and I'm gonna highlight it," Mr Schue explained his choices, as Violette grew excited not just for their next performance, but also for the future of the club. Maybe things were looking up, and it was about damn time.

However, Finn and Rachel were quick to try and ruin the hopes of the rest of the club, with Finn spewing nonsense about not taking out the "star quarterback before the big game". Violette wasn't entirely sure what football had to do with anything, but mostly she was concerned with his incorrect use of the word 'star' at the beginning of the phrase.
