As the days passed, the atmosphere at the house began to shift. With Andrew recovering well and the other boys reflecting on their actions, a sense of change started to take root among them.
Daniel, one of the older boys, found himself deeply troubled by Michael's unwavering commitment to his younger brother. Curious about Michael's willingness to endure so much for Andrew's safety, Daniel approached him.
"Michael," Daniel began cautiously, "I've been thinking about everything that's happened. I'm curious why you agreed to do so much for Andrew's protection and didn't complain about it. Why did you accept it without saying anything to the guardians?"
Michael looked at Daniel with a mixture of sadness and resolve. "When our parents died," he explained softly, "Andrew and I were left with nothing but each other. My only wish was to take care of him, to keep him safe and happy. I love him more than anything in this world. I'd sacrifice anything, even my life, for him."
The room was silent as Michael's words sank in. The other boys, who had been quietly listening, were deeply moved. They felt the weight of their recent actions more than ever, their guilt intensifying with each word Michael spoke.
Daniel's eyes softened with regret. "We're really sorry for how we treated you and Andrew. We've realized that you're part of our family, and we regret everything we've done. I know as an elder, I shouldn't have acted so cruelly towards my younger siblings. I'm truly sorry for what I did, and I apologize for the way we've behaved."
One by one, the other boys approached Michael and Andrew, expressing their remorse. Each apology was heartfelt and sincere. They admitted their mistakes and acknowledged the pain they had caused. The room was filled with a sense of collective guilt and a desire to make amends.
"I'm sorry for bullying Andrew," said Jackson, his voice heavy with regret. "I never should have treated him like that."
Logan, who had been the one to harm Andrew, was particularly contrite. "I can't apologize enough for what I did. I was wrong, and I hope you can forgive me."
The other boys added their apologies, each one acknowledging their part in the wrongdoing. They expressed their desire to change and to be better friends and brothers to Michael and Andrew.
Michael, though still deeply affected by the events, appreciated their sincerity. "Thank you for understanding," he said. "I hope we can all move forward from this and work together to be better."
Andrew, who had been listening quietly, looked at the boys with a forgiving heart. "I appreciate your apologies," he said softly. "Let's all try to be better to each other from now on."
As the days went on, the sense of unity and understanding grew. While the past could not be changed, the commitment to a better future offered hope for all. The house, once filled with tension and regret, began to heal as the boys made efforts to improve their behavior and strengthen their bonds.
To be continued
