- The nature of the universe, the standard of justice, the validity of knowledge, the correct application of reason, and the criterion of beauty then became the domain of philosophy.
(Philosophy is the science of sciences of all that exist in their ultimate causes and principles through the help of the human intellect alone.)
Contemporary Descriptions
- It is the science and art of all things naturally knowable to man's unaided powers in so far as these things are studied in their deepest causes and reasons.
- It is the human being's attempt to think speculatively, reflectively, and systematically about the universe and human relationship to the universe.

- Philosophy recognizes the finding of sciences seeking facts as its end products
- The purest philosophers have regarded the works of arts with feelings that should be conquered by the intellect, otherwise, man abuses himself to the level of the lowest animal.
