The game had ended with Fukurodani winning by a slim margin, much to Bokuto's delight. With victory fresh in his mind, Bokuto couldn't wait to meet up with Y/N for their post-match meal or 'date'. He had practically sprinted out of the gym, excitedly dragging Akaashi along with him until his vice-captain reminded him that Y/N was waiting by the bleachers. Akaashi couldn't join them since he promised his mother that he would pick up some groceries from the store (it was also his plan to leave Bokuto and Y/N to spend some time alone since his captain seems to be interested in her)

Now, the two of them sat in a cozy corner of a local ramen shop, the rich aroma of broth and noodles filling the air. The shop was small and warm, with wooden tables and soft lighting that created an inviting atmosphere. Bokuto was practically bouncing in his seat as he talked animatedly about the match, his hands gesturing wildly as he described his favorite plays.

"And then, when Kuroo went up to block me—bam! I hit the ball right past him!" Bokuto exclaimed, a huge grin plastered on his face. "Did you see that? It was awesome!"

Y/N smiled at his enthusiasm, nodding. "I saw," she said softly. "You were amazing out there."

Bokuto's grin somehow widened even more at her words, and he leaned back in his chair with a satisfied sigh.

"Thanks! It feels even better knowing you were watching." His tone was light and teasing, but there was an unmistakable warmth in his eyes.

Y/N blushed slightly at his words, adjusting her bangs and ducking her head to hide her smile.

"Well, you definitely made an impression," she teased back, referring to their earlier "incident."

Bokuto laughed, a loud, joyful sound that filled the small space.

"Yeah, not exactly how I wanted to catch your attention," he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck, "but at least it worked!"

The waitress arrived with their ramen, placing steaming bowls in front of them. Bokuto's eyes lit up as he inhaled the scent of the broth.

"Oh man, this smells so good!" he said excitedly, grabbing his chopsticks. "You're gonna love this place—it's my favorite!"

They both dug into their ramen, the sound of slurping noodles mingling with the soft hum of conversation from the other diners. For a few moments, they ate in comfortable silence, simply enjoying the meal and the company.

After a while, Bokuto glanced over at Y/N, who was carefully blowing on her noodles to cool them down before taking a bite. He watched her with a soft smile on his face, feeling a strange mix of nervousness and excitement bubbling up inside him.

"So, uh," Bokuto started, setting his chopsticks down for a moment, "Do you come to our matches often? I didn't see you before today."

Y/N shook her head, looking up at him.

"No, this was my first time," she admitted. "I've always been interested in volleyball, but I never really had the chance to watch a live match until today."

Bokuto's face brightened at her words. "No way! Your first match, and you came to watch Fukurodani? That's awesome!" His excitement was contagious, and Y/N found herself smiling again.

"Yeah," she said, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "Though I didn't expect to get quite so up close and got hit by a ball" she chuckled recalling the incident.

Bokuto chuckled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck again.

"Sorry about that... again," he said, his voice softening. "But hey, now that you've seen us play, maybe you'll come to more matches? I mean, I promise not to hit you with a volleyball next time and you can play with us too if you like!"

Y/N pretended to think about it for a moment before nodding.

"I'd like that," she said, her voice genuine. "I had a lot of fun watching you guys play."

Bokuto's chest swelled with happiness at her response. He was used to people cheering for him, but this felt different. It wasn't just about the volleyball—he liked the way Y/N made him feel, like she genuinely enjoyed being around him for more than just his skills on the court.

As they continued talking, Bokuto found himself growing more and more comfortable around her. He told her stories about his teammates, about the funny things Kuroo and Akaashi did during practice, and about the time he almost got stuck in a vending machine (she had laughed so hard she nearly spit out her drink).

In return, Y/N shared some details about her life—her favorite books, foods, the classes she enjoyed, and her passion for knitting. She mentioned that she loves making crafts and even clothing through knitting. Additionally, she was quite talented and had sold many of her handmade knitting creations.

Bokuto listened intently, fascinated by the way her eyes lit up when she talked about things she was passionate about. He had never met someone who made him feel so at ease, and it surprised him how easy it was to talk to her.

Before they knew it, their bowls were empty, and the shop was beginning to quiet down as the evening drew on. Bokuto glanced at the clock on the wall and let out a content sigh.

"Man, I could talk to you all night," he said honestly, leaning back in his chair. "But I guess they're closing soon..."

Y/N smiled softly at his words, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. "I had a really great time," she said. "Thanks for inviting me out, Bokuto."

Bokuto grinned at her, his heart doing that strange fluttery thing again. "Me too! We should do this again sometime. No volleyballs to the face next time, though—just food and fun, promise."

Y/N laughed, nodding. "Deal."

As they stood up to leave, Bokuto hesitated for a moment before turning to her with a slightly nervous expression. "Um, Y/N?"

"Yeah?"

Bokuto shifted on his feet, rubbing the back of his neck like he always did when he was feeling shy.

"I know we just met and all, but... do you think maybe we could hang out again soon? Like, maybe this weekend? I had a lot of fun today, and... well, I'd really like to see you again."

Y/N's heart fluttered at his words, and she smiled warmly at him.

"I'd love that," she said softly. "Here, put your number on my phone so we can come up with a plan this weekend" as she handed out her phone to Bokuto.

Bokuto's face lit up with the brightest smile she'd seen all day and saved his number in Y/N's phone as:

Bokuto 🩵

"Awesome! here, you go!" he exclaimed, giving her phone back. "It's a date, then!"

Y/N blushed as he mentioned the word 'date' and a b-blue heart next to his name?!

As they left the ramen shop and walked side by side down the quiet street, Bokuto couldn't stop smiling. He had no idea where this newfound connection with Y/N would lead, but for the first time in a long time, he felt like he had met someone who truly saw him—not just as Fukurodani's ace, but as Bokuto Kotaro, the loud, goofy, and passionate guy who wanted nothing more than to make her smile.

And judging by the way Y/N was looking at him, he had a feeling that maybe—just maybe—this was the start of something special for the two of them.
