The days went by as usual for both Bokuto and Y/N. Despite the chaos and teasing from the team, both of them hadn't confessed to each other yet, but both knew their bond was growing stronger with every passing day. They were practically inseparable.
But then, one afternoon, things took an unexpected turn.
"Guess I'm all alone" Bokuto muttered, feeling a little upset since he won't be able to be with Y/N. (awwww poor Bokuto)
Bokuto was packing up his things after practice when he noticed Yumi lingering near the gym entrance. She was nervously shifting from foot to foot, looking like she was waiting for something—or someone.
Bokuto sighed. He had a feeling this wasn't going to be a casual conversation.
As he slung his gym bag over his shoulder and made his way toward the exit, Yumi intercepted him, her face a mixture of determination and nervousness.
"Bokuto," she said quietly, her voice softer than usual.
He blinked in surprise, stopping in his tracks. "Oh, hey, Yumi. What's up?"
Yumi hesitated for a moment, biting her lip as she gathered her thoughts. After what seemed like an eternity, she finally spoke.
"I need to talk to you about something... important," she said, her cheeks flushing pink.
Bokuto raised an eyebrow, slightly confused but nodding nonetheless. "Okay... shoot."
Yumi took a deep breath, clearly steeling herself.
"Bokuto... I like you. I've liked you for a long time, and I just... I wanted you to know."
Bokuto's eyes widened in shock. He wasn't expecting that. Not at all. He stood there, stunned and unsure of how to respond.
Yumi fidgeted under his gaze, her cheeks flushing even more as she continued. "I know you've been spending a lot of time with Y/N, but I wanted to tell you how I felt before it was too late. I think we could be really good together."
The silence that followed was thick and heavy, and Bokuto could feel the weight of Yumi's words pressing down on him. He glanced away, his mind racing as he tried to figure out what to say.
He knew he had to be honest—both with Yumi and himself.
"Yumi," Bokuto began, his voice gentle but firm, "I appreciate you telling me this, but... I don't feel the same way."
Yumi's face fell, and she quickly looked down at her feet, trying to hide the hurt in her eyes. "Oh..."
Bokuto took a deep breath, not feeling guilty at all since he did not feel the same way. He didn't want to hurt her, but he knew he couldn't lead her on.
"I'm really sorry," Bokuto continued, his tone sincere. "You're a great person, and I'm flattered, but... my heart's with someone else."
Yumi blinked, looking up at him in confusion. "You mean Y/N, don't you?"
