After their enjoyable cafe outing, Bokuto returned home with a mix of contentment and lingering thoughts about the day's events. He had spent a fun afternoon with Y/N and Akaashi, but his mind kept drifting back to the earlier encounter with Yumi and how it had made him feel. He felt shivers running through his spine as he recalled the 'serious-face' Y/N had back then.

Sitting in his room, Bokuto couldn't shake off the uneasy feelings that had surfaced. He decided to call Akaashi, hoping to get some perspective on his emotions.

He picked up his phone and dialed Akaashi's number. After a few rings, Akaashi answered with his usual calm tone.

"Hello, Bokuto-san. What's up?" Akaashi asked.

Bokuto hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath. "Hey, Akaashi. Can we talk for a minute? There's something on my mind."

Akaashi's voice softened, sensing the seriousness in Bokuto's tone.

"Of course. What's going on?"

Bokuto paced his room, trying to find the right words.

"It's about Y/N. I... I've been feeling kind of confused lately. Today, when Yumi asked me to hang out and Y/N stepped in, I felt this weird aura coming from Y/N and you know-she had this serious-scary looking face I've never seen before. I mean..I think she was mad at me or something? I don't know...."

Akaashi listened attentively, waiting for Bokuto to continue.

"I mean, I was surprised that Yumi asked me out. And then when Y/N suggested we just go ahead with our plans, I felt like she was upset or something, but we did had fun just now right?"

Akaashi took a moment before responding.

"It sounds like you're feeling a lot of emotions right now. I think Y/N was uncomfortable when someone she barely knew suddenly approached us since we're the only ones and the team, hanging around her a lot. But, if you're still unsure, I suggest you to talk to her about it."

Bokuto nodded, even though Akaashi couldn't see him.

"Yeah, I know. I just... I keep thinking about how much I enjoy spending time with her. And when Yumi showed up, it made me realize that I really don't want to lose the chance to be close to Y/N. I don't want to mess things up or make things awkward between us."

Akaashi's was quite surprised with what the captain had said.

"Bokuto-san" the setter called.

"Yeah?"

"Do you perhaps, like Y/N-san?"

The question had hit Bokuto like a perfectly executed spike. He had stammered in response, deflecting with a nervous laugh before changing the subject, but now, in the quiet of his room, there was no avoiding it. Akaashi had said the words Bokuto hadn't even dared to fully articulate to himself.

"Do I... like Y/N?" Bokuto muttered aloud.

His thoughts wandered back to all the times he had spent with Y/N. Every moment they had shared—from the accidental volleyball encounter to their recent cafe outing—felt like something special. She had a way of grounding him when his moods swung, of making him feel both seen and supported. He felt a spark around her that wasn't like what he felt around anyone else.

His heart raced as the memories flooded back. The way her laughter sounded when she teased him, the soft encouragement she gave when he felt off his game, and the warmth of her smile when they were just being silly together. Wasn't that what people described as a crush? It wasn't just friendship anymore—there was something more there. That was why he felt something wasn't right and there was something missing as well.

He sighed heavily, rolling over on his bed and burying his face in a pillow. "Ugh, why is this so confusing?" he groaned to himself.

He knew he had to face the truth sooner or later. Bokuto lifted his head and sat up.

"Okay, I think I really do like Y/N," he admitted to himself, his cheeks flushing slightly at the admission. The realization both excited and terrified him.

Akaashi didn't respond to him as he knew the captain would continue talking.

"Akaashi, I think... I think you were right. I think I do like Y/N."

There was a brief pause on the other end before Akaashi responded.

"I thought so."

Bokuto's face reddened. "What do you mean, you thought so?"

Akaashi's voice had a slight teasing edge to it, which was rare for him.

"You've been acting differently around her for a while now. You're more attentive when she's around, and you always seem more energized when you talk about her. Plus, you'll always find excuse to spend more time with her."

Bokuto scratched his head, flustered. "Am I that obvious?"

"Not obvious," Akaashi reassured him. "Just... noticeable. At least to someone who knows you well."

Bokuto fell back onto his bed, holding the phone to his ear. "So what do I do now? Do I just... tell her? What if it messes up everything?"

Akaashi sighed softly. "You're overthinking it, Bokuto-san. You've already built a strong connection with Y/N. She clearly enjoys spending time with you. Be honest with her, but take it slow. Let the conversation flow naturally. You don't have to rush anything. It's up to you to find the perfect time."

Bokuto bit his lip, taking Akaashi's words to heart. "I guess you're right. But man, this is nerve-wracking."

"It's always a little nerve-wracking," Akaashi said with a slight chuckle. "But you'll be fine. You've always been straightforward, Bokuto. Just be yourself."

Bokuto smiled at that. "Thanks, Akaashi. I don't know what I'd do without you, man."

"I know," Akaashi replied with his signature deadpan humor.

Bokuto laughed. "Alright, I'm going to think it over some more. Maybe I'll find the right time to talk to her soon. I don't want to wait too long but I still need some time."

"Take your time," Akaashi said. "You'll know when the moment feels right."

After saying their goodbyes, Bokuto hung up and felt a renewed sense of determination. He wasn't sure exactly when he'd tell Y/N about his feelings, but he knew he couldn't ignore them any longer. The thought of her—of their time together—was too important to him.

He then turned his position, as he saw the knitted owl keychain he had made together with Y/N hanging from his bag. A smile plastered on his face. As he drifted off to sleep, one thought circled in his mind: he liked Y/N. And now that he had admitted it to himself, there was no going back.
