The Chicxulub crater, one that was buried underneath the sea in Mexico. Its centre offshore near the community of Chicxulub, after which it is named.
Formed slightly over 66 million years ago when a large asteroid decided to say hello to the Earth and struck it instead. It is now widely accepted that the resulting devastation was the cause of almost 75 to 90% of plant and animal species on Earth, including all non-avian Dinosaurs. And is the only crater whose is intact and directly accessible for scientific research. Nearby where the town was planted the beaches had little amounts of tourists there. Most of the inhabitants had left to find better job and scout out a living for themselves deeper within the mainland meaning that most of the population were immigrants.

And somewhere out at sea many miles upon miles away was the crater, completely underwater and teeming with underwater life, such as dolphins, orcas, sharks and of course fish. but at the center of it all in the middle of the crater another lifeform stayed in a still state of hibernation in a microscopic world below human comprehension.

The testing of atomic bombs from 1945 to 1992, 520 atmospheric nuclear explosions (including eight underwater) were conducted with a total yield of 545 megatons, with a peaks occurring in 1961-1962, when 340 megatons were detonated in the atmosphere by the United States and Soviet Union. Of course, these were kept mostly secretly from the public with only a few accidents occurring because of these detonations, but inadvertently the radiation would fall from the air and travel straight out to the sea where shinomura just so happened to be, due to her properties the radiation would however pass over the town and be directly absorbed into her preventing a nuclear catastrophe that would undoubtedly have killed millions which means she had inadvertently saved many lives
