Dead Among Us

Chapter 5: Beyond the School

"So we decided to split up to search for anymore dead ones and take them out. That way we wouldn't have to see any surprises while walking in the school building.", I said. "Then that's when we found you officer.", Samantha said. Officer Wayne gave us a shocked visage. Possibly wondering how we could have survived all of that in just half a day. "No one else is here beside you guys?", Officer Wayne asked. "You guys locked up those gates together?" Officer Wayne kept asking questions compulsively. "Yes sir.", I said. "Just like we told", Danny said. "I hope my family is alright.", Anthony said. We all looked at him and also thinking about our own families as well.

Our siblings, our parents. But we have no idea for sure of what is going on outside of the gates of the school. Then something popped in my mind. It maybe mad but it might just work. "Wayne, is your police car here?", I asked. "Yes it is. I drove here early this morning like I always do, then Jake comes like one hour later.", Wayne said. "Why?" All were confused as well as to why I would ask this but Danny soon realize what I had in mind. "Well since I have one of the keys to the gate and you have a car. We could drive to places where we could....", I said but was cut off by Anthony.

"Where we could gather supplies, food, and maybe even weapons.", Anthony said. "Exactly.", I said. Danny and Samantha looked a bit reluctant to go through with the plan. "He is right. It could be our only chance to gather as much supplies as possible. Especially food. There are weapons at the station also.", Wayne said. Danny and Samantha still looked worried but they figured they might as well go through with the plan. "I'm in, we do this as a team too.", Danny said. Danny knew that he had faith in this plan as well as Anthony knew also. "What happens of things go south?", Samantha asked.

"Well....If Wayne ditches us like his pal, then we are totally fucked.", Danny said. "If I see you trying to escape I will put your ass on the ground!" "Cool it Dan!", I shouted out. "I promise, I won't leave you guys, that wouldn't be very human of me.", Wayne said. "Then it's settled, first grab a drink and a small snack, then we go beyond the school.", I said. We all go to the vending machines where we last ate our snacks and we grab what we can carry. "Hopefully we can find some backpacks along the way for each of us.", Samantha said while grabbing an diet soda filled bottle. "I agree, incase we find anything useful we need to have bags to carry our findings.", I said.

Officer Wayne only takes an energy drink and a granola bar. "Let's get this shit done.", Anthony said. We all nod our heads and walk to the parking lot following Wayne to his car. We finally reach it. His car looks very modern. A charger with the title "MDSP" on the side which stands for Miami Dade Schools Police. "Nice car dude.", Danny said. "It's not much but I hope you all can fit okay in it.", Wayne said. He unlocks the doors of the car and Danny opens the door to the front seat. "I call shotgun.", Danny said. Officer Wayne gets in the driver seat and the rest of us get in the back seat of the car. As we sit down, me, Anthony and Samantha look at the cage that separates a criminal from the officer usually. "Never thought I'd be sitting back of a police car until now.", Anthony said while softly chuckling. I smiled for a moment but Samantha didn't at all.

"Alright let's go.", Wayne said. He inserts his keys into the ignition and starts the car. We drive off to the North gate of the school. We see a bunch of dead ones though at the front of the gate. Officer Wayne stops the car in front of the gate. "Oh shit, can't go anywhere with those..things there.", Wayne said. "Are they attracted to sound?", Anthony asked. "I'm not sure. Why?", I said. "I have an idea, let me stay here, I'll guard the school grounds while you guys are out there.", Anthony said.

"What are you insane?", Danny asked. "Leave the keys on the lock, when you leave and don't wait up for me. I'll be fine. I promise.", Anthony said. "You better not mess up mate, I don't want you to end up dead.", I said. "Also leave the keys on the lock after you close the gate. That way I can lock the gate while you guys leave the school and unlock it when you guys come back. I'll be waiting.", Anthony said. Anthony then gets out of the car quickly, runs to the gate and begins to draw the dead ones attention by yelling out the phrase "OVER HERE, OVER HERE!" He runs across the gate and begins to lure the walkers and runners away from us.
