Cattle Drive
Camp
Sammy POV
I was sitting on the bench by the fireplace. The Dino-nerd Darius was telling a spooky story. I wasn't really paying attention. I was mostly looking over at Yasmina. She was right behind me, scribbling in her journal. I couldn't help but feel bad for her. She was missing a fun time.
"Shouldn't we call Yasmina over?" I asked, interrupting Darius. "I'm sure she'd love this story." The entire group looked at Yasmina. "The brooding track star? Good luck, she probably just wants to be by herself," Kenji quipped.
I turned back to the group. "I don't understand," I said. "You know how sometimes people just want to be left alone?" Kenji explained, much to my confusion. I chuckled at him. "Kenji, you're so funny," I laughed. "I bet she's just shy and doesn't know how to make friends." I looked inside and saw Yasmina sitting alone.
"I doubt it," Brooklyn interjected. "She seems to be pretty good at doing her own thing." Suddenly, it began to rain, causing us all to jump up. "Maybe we should go inside!" I suggested as we all hurried inside. "Way ahead of you!" Ben yelled as he bolted in.
Yasmina sat down beside on the couch, pulling out her journal
"Aw man my pages got wet." Yaz groaned as she spotted Patrick sneaking into the bathroom.
Before either of them could continue, Sammy suddenly jumped onto the couch, causing Yaz to yelp and jump back. "You need a friend!" Sammy exclaimed.
"What?" Yasmina asked bewildered.
"I'm such a ding-dong! You're alone.mWhen I feel alone, having a friend around really helps. And I could use a friend." Sammy rambled excited.
"Uh, you lost me around 'ding-dong,'" Yasmina said, confused.
Sammy gasped, noticing Yasmina's note book. "Is that a scrapbook?" she asked, her eyes lighting up. "I love scrapbooking! The two of us can make one together. It'll pull you out of your shell!"
"I kind like my shell." Yaz assured standing up and walking away.
"No one likes a shell, it keeps people from getting to know you." Sammy said innocently.
"Bingo." Yasmina said walking away.
"I'm not going to stop trying!" Sammy yelled
"Can't hear you in my shell!" Yasmina yelled back letting herself smile.
The next day
Gyrosphere Valley
We were all walking to the Gyrosphere Valley, where a herd of herbivores grazed peacefully. I hesitated as we approached the gyrospheres, my heart racing. Darius, as enthusiastic as ever, ran up to one of the vehicles and exclaimed, "We get to drive gyrospheres? Cool!" His excitement was contagious, but I couldn't shake the nervousness gnawing at me. I cautiously slid into one of the rides with Yaz, sitting in the passenger seat beside her. She glanced at me, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "This is gonna be so sick," she said, trying to amp me up. I forced a smile, hoping it didn't look as strained as it felt. "Agreed," I mumbled, though my voice lacked conviction.
"Right?!" Sammy's voice startled me, and I turned to see her standing outside the vehicle, practically bouncing with excitement. "Dave and Roxie said that us three need to ride together since they only have three gyrospheres. Isn't that exciting?"
I felt Yaz shift beside me, clearly annoyed, but she put on a fake smile for Sammy's sake. "Yay," she said, though her tone was anything but enthusiastic.
