His name is Patrick Palmer. A boy with a ton of insecurities. He spent years of his life being bullied for a something he has no control over. After another day, his mom calls Patrick's uncle and he gets him a spot in Camp Cretaceous, where he'll g...
Patrick woke up and looked around; it was nighttime, and the lights were out. A routine he was way too familiar with. He sighed in relief before putting his left leg on his right knee.
"Hey!"
Patrick spun around and saw Yaz smiling at him.
"Hey," Patrick said, planting his leg on the ground as quickly and quietly as he could as the girl sat next to him.
"So, what's it like back home?" Yasmina asked. "What do you like to do?"
"I, uhh... swim," Patrick said, causing Yaz's eyes to go wide.
"Really?" Yasmina asked. "That's so sick."
Patrick looked away from the girl.
"Why are you here?" Patrick questioned.
"Couldn't sleep," Yasmina said nonchalantly. "What about you?"
She smiled at Patrick kindly. Patrick couldn't help but smile back.
"Same," Patrick lied.
The two sat in awkward silence for a bit.
"So, what about you?" Patrick questioned. "You run track?"
Yasmina nodded.
"That's so cool," Patrick said. "I wanted to run track before..."
Patrick's smile faded.
"Before what?" Yasmina questioned.
Patrick didn't answer but his head suddenly perked up, and he stared out the window.
"Patrick?" Yasmina asked.
"Did you see that?" Patrick asked. Yasmina looked outside to where he was looking. She narrowed her eyes, looking into the night.
Then she saw it.
A creature with jet-black skin was moving through the bushes, its skin blending in perfectly with the night; the only thing that allowed Yasmina to see it was its golden stripe running across its body.
Patrick stood up and went towards the elevator, shocking Yaz.
"Patrick, what are you doing!?" Yasmina questioned.
"It's wounded. I'm going to help it," Patrick said.
"I'm coming with you," Yasmina said. Before Patrick could argue, Yasmina had already joined him in the elevator right as the doors shut. Patrick sighed. A few seconds later, the door opened, and the two teens walked out toward the jungle.
Patrick saw a footprint left by the creature leading deeper into the jungle. Patrick looked around, obviously scared, but kept walking forward, followed closely by Yasmina, who noticed the fear plastered on his face.
"You okay?" Yasmina asked.
Patrick nodded frantically.
"Just a little... nervous," Patrick said.
"Well, maybe we should head back," Yasmina suggested. "If you're afraid, then maybe..."
"I'm not going to let this thing die just because I'm scared," Patrick snapped.
Before Yasmina could respond, she heard a low growl in the bushes. The two teens slowly walked forward and saw the creature glaring at them.
