depression/low mood - s.j

information: scarlett's wife, jess, deals with depression and low mood. jess has been in bed all day, and she has sent scarlett texts saying that nobody needs her etc. that worries scarlett.

when scarlett is home she comes into the bedroom where her wife is scrolling on tiktok

"you feel like no one needs you baby but i need you! you enjoy your day in bed we are going to watch all your favourite movies and eat." scarlett says softly.

a warm smile spreads across jess's face as she looks up from her phone and sees scarlett standing there with an amused but understanding expression.

"you need me?" jess asks, her voice small and vulnerable.

"always," scarlett replies, walking over to the bed and sitting down beside her wife.

jess sighs and sets her phone aside, feeling comforted by scarlett's presence. "i just feel so useless today."

scarlett takes her wife's hand in hers, squeezing it gently. "you're not useless, baby. you're the most important person in my life. i couldn't imagine life without you."

"i just feel like i contribute nothing to anyone,"  jess murmurs, looking down at her lap.

scarlett lifts jess chin gently, looking her in the eyes. "that's not true. you bring so much joy and happiness to my life every day. you're kind, caring, and compassionate. you make me laugh."

jess's eyes fill with tears as she processes scarlett's words. "but i just feel so worthless," she says, her voice cracking.

scarlett cups jess's face in her hands, wiping away a tear with her thumb. "baby, don't say that. don't ever say that. you're the best thing that's ever happened to me."

she pulls jess closer to her chest, wrapping her arms around her in a tight hug. "i love you. so much."

jess buries her face in scarlett's shoulder, letting out a shaky breath as she absorbs the comfort and love her wife is offering. "i love you too," she manages to say.

scarlett continues to hold her tightly, rubbing her back in soothing circles. "it's okay to have bad days, baby. it doesn't make you worthless. you're just human."

jess nods against scarlett's chest, feeling a wave of gratitude and relief wash over her.

scarlett can sense that jess is feeling a little better, so she starts to pull away slightly.

"now come on, up you get." scarlett says, gently tugging on jess's arm. "we're going to watch your favourite movies and stuff our faces with snacks."

a small smile appears on jess's face again as she allows scarlett to pull her upright. she follows behind her as they make their way to the living room, feeling a little lighter with each step.

scarlett turns on the tv and pulls up a list of jess's favourite movies, setting the snacks out on the coffee table. she sits down on the couch and pats the spot next to her, inviting jess to join her.

jess curls up beside scarlett on the couch, leaning her head against her shoulder. scarlett puts her arm around her, pressing play on the movie.

as the movie starts, jess finds herself slowly sinking into scarlett's warmth and presence, feeling the weight of depression slowly lifting off of her.

scarlett glances over at jess every now and then, noticing the transformation taking place. she sees her wife's shoulders relax, her breathing slow, and the hint of a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.

halfway through the movie, scarlett reaches for the bag of chips on the table and offers them to jess. without looking away from the screen, jess takes a handful and munches on them quietly.
