This is my first full Wizard of Oz fic. I haven't seen the movie with Judy Garland as Dorothy in a long while, and this is supposed to be set in that movie. But this can be in the og book as well in the 1939 film. You take it as you will.

After killing the Wicked Witch of the West, Dorothy with Toto and her friends got to a safe place. That was when they stopped running and took a small break for the members that needed rest. Dorothy all of a sudden, started to breathe heavily. Tears started to come out of her eyes as she fell to her knees. Dorothy started crying while holding Toto. Her friends knew why she was crying. Tinman fell to the ground in front of Dorothy to hug her.

"It's ok now Dorothy, she's not going to hurt you anymore" Tinman said, trying to stay calm as he felt crying cause of Dorothy.

"I know but that was all too scary" Dorothy cried.

Lion went to put a paw on Dorothy's back to comfort her. Scarecrow was patting her head.

"It's ok Dorothy. Everyone and everything is ok" Tinman said, about to cry fully.

Scarecrow felt this, having comfort the man made of tin before, he grabbed Dorothy from Tinman's arms. Scarecrow put Dorothy on one side so she could cry on a shoulder and he pulled in Tinman to cry on the other. Lion went to Dorothy's side and patted her back to comfort her. Tinman started to cry himself out of reaction to Dorothy crying. Scarecrow started to sing a little song he made up to help comfort Dorothy and Tinman.

"Scarecrow, what are you doing?" Lion asked with a smile.

"Singing a comfort song, I made it up back at the cornfields to comfort myself when I was down" Scarecrow quickly replied so he could go back to singing.

Lion nodded and Scarecrow continued to sing his song. Soon the crying stopped.

"I'm sorry for breaking down like that and making you cry as well Tinman" Dorothy apologized.

"No apologies needed Dorothy. You just went through a horrible thing at such a young age" Tinman said to Dorothy.

Dorothy smiled up at the Tinman.

"I should be the one apologizing for breaking down" Tinman apologized.

"No need for apologies, friends. We all went through something horrible. It's ok to cry about it. Especially you two, Dorothy and Tinman" Scarecrow said.

"Thank you Scarecrow" Tinman happily said to Scarecrow while giving him a hug.

"No problem, friend" Scarecrow happily said.

Tinman soon let go of his friend. It was now Dorothy's turn to hug the Scarecrow.

"You are a wonderful brother" Dorothy said to Scarecrow. "You are a wonderful family" Dorothy said to all of her friends.

"Wait...family?" Lion asked.

"Brother?" Scarecrow questioned.

"You see us as a family?" Lion asked Dorothy.

"Why yes Lion" Dorothy chuckled as she still hugged the Scarecrow.

"But we don't look...or act, the same" Scarecrow said in a voice that everyone knew that he was hiding excitement.

"Yeah but that doesn't mean family out right. You don't need to look or act alike, you need to care, love, support and trust to be a family" Dorothy stated. "Which we all have for one another in this group"

"Oh boy the oil works are about to come back" Tinman said, feeling the joyful tears coming.

"Dorothy, what is a brother?" Scarecrow asked Dorothy with joy.

"A brother is like a best friend that is blood related to someone like me or it could be a strong bond of friendship" Dorothy said, trying her best to explain it.

Scarecrow unwrapped Dorothy's arms and held her hands in his. Scarecrow started to jump up and down with Dorothy following his lead. They both laughed cheerfully with Lion chuckling and Tinman smiling. Scarecrow then tried to lift up Dorothy in the air but fell backwards. Scarecrow used his body as a cushion for Dorothy so she wouldn't get hurt.

"Are you ok?" Scarecrow asked in a panic as the others came to them.

"I'm fine. I'm not hurt" Dorothy chuckled.

They all sighed in relief.

"Are you sure you're not hurt?" Tinman asked.

"I'm sure I'm not" Dorothy chuckled.

"You worried us for a second there" Lion chuckled.

"Yeah, you could have given me a heart attack if I had a heart" Tinman sighed.

"I'm truly sorry" Scarecrow sadly said knowing that he caused his friend to say that.

"It's ok Scarecrow, just don't do it again unless I'm behind you" Tinman said.

"I'll try" Scarecrow said with a small smile.

Tinman gave a small smile back to Scarecrow. Dorothy gave a small yawn, letting herself and the others know shes tired. Tinman started getting firewood right away and made a campfire for Dorothy, Toto, and Lion. Those three sat close to it and Scarecrow backed up a bit before it got lit. Soon the three that needed sleep did on the soft grass. Tinman and Scarecrow stayed awake as they didn't need it. Scarecrow still kept his distance from the fire. Tinman slowly made his way to Scarecrow, clearly slowly rusting. Scarecrow stood up and met him. Scarecrow oiled Tinman's joints for him. They both went to sit down where Scarecrow just up from.

"Today was a wild day" Tinman sighed.

"Agreed" Scarecrow chuckled. "And the first time comforting two people at once"

"I guess" Tinman sighed again. "If only I had a heart, I would better understand Dorothy if I only had a heart"

"Well, I think you understand her fine. I say you already have a heart" Scarecrow happily said.

"Really?" Tinman questioned. "You clearly do have a brain" Tinman chuckled softly.

"No I don't. I'm not smart because I don't have one" Scarecrow sadly said.

"Well, you did get us away from the winged monkeys and helped free Dorothy by planning in your head" Tinman happily told Scarecrow. "I couldn't come up with half of that stuff if I tried" Tinman told the Scarecrow.

"Aw shucks" Scarecrow happily said. "If you really want me to believe it if I have a brain, you have to believe you have a heart first. A really kind heart" Scarecrow wisely said.

"Told you" Tinman chuckled. "You're wise my friend"

"Thank you, friend" Scarecrow happily said with a smile.

"No problem" Tinman softly said.

Scarecrow looked over to Dorothy, Toto and Lion peacefully sleeping.

"I have a lovely family. I'm not trading you guys for anything" Scarecrow cheerfully said.

"And we won't you" Tinman said.

Scarecrow smiled and Tinman smiled back. The two talked quietly all night. In the morning, Dorothy, Toto and Lion ate. After, they started back to the emerald city.

I might have gotten some characteristics wrong for some of the characters since this is my first time writing them. Yes I see them having a family dynamic. I hope you enjoy this. Bye bye.
