As Jaune walked through the quiet streets of Vale, the clink of his boots on the cobblestone echoed in the evening air. The city was winding down, with only a few civilians still out and about, their silhouettes cast in the fading light. His long, black coat swayed with his movements, the massive sword on his back.
He approached an old, stone building that seemed out of place in the bustling city... A remnant of a bygone era from the past that stood, now repurposed for new use, a Huntsman business. As he neared the entrance, his thoughts drifted back to the conversation with Ozpin that had set him on this path.
.
.
.
He stood in Ozpin's office, the headmaster gazing at him with those sharp eyes. The soft hum of machinery filled the room, along with the glow of monitors displaying various data on Beacon and other locations.
Ozpin: Mr Arc, I understand that the trip to the Forever Fall is... not to your liking?
Jaune stood with a expression as neutral as always while he sat down with his sword leaning beside him.
Jaune: A trip to the forest to face weak Grimm holds no interest for me. My skills are wasted on such trivial tasks. I prefer to not be insulted by a mundane task.
Ozpin nodded, as if he had expected this response.
Ozpin: Indeed. You've proven yourself beyond what we typically expect of our students. However, there are other matters that require attention... Tasks that someone of your caliber is more suited to that I've been looking into and I believe this is something you might like.
Jaune's interest piqued slightly, though he kept his face composed.
Jaune: What do you have in mind?
Ozpin: here's been unusual activity reported of lost cargo relating to the Schnee Dust Company shipment to the Dust stores along with more higher grade of tech being filed in as missing from the last few shipment.
He explained, leaning forward slightly.
Ozpin: The kind that requires a careful eye and a steady hand. I need someone to investigate. Someone who can handle whatever might arise with absolute precision, something like this is what I prefer not to be known by the general news station.
Jaune: Shipment huh, the aircraft port is near the water on the edge of Vale and I take it that I will be positioned there to find out whether it has to do with something happening on our end or the shipper's end.
Ozpin smiled faintly.
Ozpin: Precisely. You'll be assisting a small group of Huntsmen already in the field. They'll brief you on the details, but consider this a personal quest... A way to keep your skills sharp while serving a greater purpose, I will not let your expectation of being in Beacon go down and do understand that your talents wont get wasted.
Jaune considered this for a moment. The idea of working with others was not particularly appealing, but the chance to engage in something meaningful, rather than wasting time on a mundane exercise, was enough to sway him. He gave a curt nod.
Jaune: Treating me better then your other students huh? But very well, I'll take the assignment.
Ozpin's gaze softened, a look of satisfaction in his eyes.
Ozpin: I knew you would.
The flashback faded, and Jaune found himself standing before the entrance to the building and not a moment notice, he pushed the door open and headed inside.
