Yeonjun's eyes were narrow slits shooting lethal looks at the man beside me, tongue poking his cheek as he scoffed.
"What are you doing....
His incomplete question hung in the air as his eyes slid to me, panic arising as he assessed my state. In two big strides he was beside me, almost pulling me onto his lap.
" Who did this to you, darling?! Tell me! Wait, is it him? —"
Yeonjun turned at him, all enraged and about to choke his collar. I immediately place myself in between, protesting loudly. Yeonjun looked taken aback.
"He actually helped me. It's alright Jun, I'm okay now. Why are you here though? "
Yeonjun still didn't look too appeased, but at my question he finally stopped glaring at the poor man.
"I heard Bora discussing with Hueningkai about how the owner was giving you so much trouble. So I came here to help you out. "
There I go again. Without even meaning to, I still became a burden to him. Before we could talk anymore, Mr. Song jumped up speaking.
"Ms Chae, you should go back today. The cleaning crew is mostly done too. I'll handle my father. Once again, I'm really sorry. "
Before I could reply, Yeonjun sarcastically thanked him for his kindness accompanied with an eye roll and then proceeded to drag me away.
"Yeonjun stop! "
He let go of my wrist and whirled around to face me.
"You won't handle this project anymore. I'll replace someone else. "
"No, you can't do that! "
"What do you mean I can't?! I can and I will. It's not safe for you. "
I huffed, feeling frustrated with him. So I walk away. His fingers clamp tightly on my wrist tugging me back. I sway back with the sudden force, thumping into him.
"What is wrong with you, Ahrin? Don't you think I haven't noticed you being distant lately. Tell me what's wrong, love. It's not like you to act like this. "
"Well... You should stop treating me like a child. I know I'm younger than you and like... far less experienced and mature. But that doesn't mean you get to do this. I refuse to become your burden! "
I pull my hand away from his hold and stomp away. I hear him yelling my name, but I take a cab and go back home.
My phone had buzzed on endlessly throughout the evening. Yeonjun had sent me countless texts and called me. I wondered if I was being petty. But my frustrations stopped me from overanalyzing.
As I go to the office, I spot one of our seniors rushing towards me. He requested me and Bora to join him for a discussion. I enter the empty conference room to see Bora already chatting with another one of our seniors.
"Ahrin, Bora please transfer the files and presentations for the sushi restaurant. We'll be taking over. "
"Yes, yes, sure. Here's all the materials. "
I sat there in shock as Bora gladly passed all our hard work to them. How could he still do this after I told him not to.
"Why did you just let them take it?! "
Bora looked up confused. Her brows furrowed.
"What are you on? Choi sir realized that our safety was compromised so he gave it to them. "
"Surrendering this means we are showing our incompetence! "
I can see Bora's confusion rising every second.
"No Ahrin, it's not like that. We will still get our credit for the initial drafts, just that the seniors will handle the interactive procedures as Mr. Choi doesn't want us to feel unsafe. What's wrong with you? He just wants to protect his subordinates. "
"Well I don't want to be his burden! "
"And you're not! Stop being dumb. "
I turned to see Hueningkai standing at the door, listening on our conversation with a pissed-off expression.
"Stop misunderstanding the poor man. He just wants what's best for all of us. Don't think he did it for you. You're not special. It's for his employees who are his responsibility. He would've done the same for everyone else."
Bora shoots us a glance then walks out, raising her hands to surrender. Once she leaves, Hueningkai turns to me once again, apparently not done with this matter.
"The poor dude almost lost his mind with worry about if you were safe or not. But no, you and your childish delusions! "
I clench my fists.
"What do you think you know Hueningkai? We have been dating for so many months, we have known each other for longer than that. Yet, he never lets me help, or buy him something, or treat him to good food at fancy places.
He is always the one to help me out, advice me and regulate what I'm upto. He's the who rushes in to save me. All this while I'm just depending on him. He can't even be laidback around me, he needs to keep on worrying about me. I thought all of this was part of his nature. But then I saw him interacting with his college friend. "
I glance at Hueningkai. He looks less stormier and more understanding.
"You know, he was so relaxed and he was continuously asking for her advice and input. She was someone he could depend on. So I thought that I'll handle this project and not be a clingy, dependent girlfriend. I hate feeling like a burden. "
Hueningkai observes me with thoughtful expression. Finally, he sighs.
"I know it's your first relationship, but remember it's his first too. You both need to sit down and communicate. Yeonjun can only mend his ways if you tell him what needs to be mended. Also then you'll understand his perspective before jumping to conclusions. Otherwise all that's left is confusion which then leads to aggression. Go talk to him later. "
I take his advice, knowing that he wanted the best for both of us. I head back to work with my muddled thoughts. At lunch, I walk up to Yeonjun's office and the door is wide open. I wait for fifteen minutes before leaving to quickly grab a coffee. Upon returning, he is still not present.
After that I head back to my cubicle, finishing up the rest of my work before leaving. The next hours whizz by, but I don't even catch a glimpse of him.
As we finally close up for the day, I walk back to his office. But no one's there. Worried, I take out my phone about to call him when I see the intern who shadowed him. Quickly beckoning him, I ask him about Yeonjun's whereabouts.
"Oh, sir had gone to the meeting for designing the Sonar Penthouse series. But during the meeting, he had a sudden black out. So we rushed him to the hospital and then dropped him to his apartment. "
Hearing this, my blood ran cold. I quickly rush out to hire a cab. The entire ride, I felt nauseous with guilt. He must have not been feeling well and there I went adding stress with my childish tantrums. In hindsight, I was being such a snob. He was just clearly trying to care for me. Instead of appreciating him, I go ahead and do this?!
I jog up the stairs and ring the door bell. I hear some shuffling and a muffled thud, before a sleepy Yeonjun opens the door in his pyjamas and hair tousled. He squints at me.
"Am I dreaming again? "
