◎ Restless Mind ◎
He Chengjun almost doubted if he had heard correctly.
"What did you say?"
Dong Jiaojiao said calmly, "He Chengjun, since you've had such a hard time, I won't hold you back any longer. Let's get a divorce!
After the divorce, you can marry Lu Yao. Then you can use her family's connections to advance in your career."
He Chengjun was taken aback, suspecting that Dong Jiaojiao was somehow reading his mind. How else would she know what he was about to say?
He had indeed planned to explain Dong Jiaojiao's concerns about Lu Yao's family background, saying that his association with Lu Yao was purely for the sake of the connections she had. But he hadn't intended to talk about divorce and remarrying, as it would harm his reputation and would not be approved by the military.
Now that Dong Jiaojiao had brought it up so directly, it made it difficult for him to use Lu Yao's family background as an excuse. It made him seem as if he could only rely on women for advancement.
He Chengjun denied it: "Dong Jiaojiao, don't listen to those gossips outside. There's nothing between Lu Yao and me. If you don't like her bringing me meals, I'll tell her not to come anymore.
But please don't talk about divorce. It would be bad if this gets out."
What He Chengjun didn't know was that the news of Dong Jiaojiao wanting a divorce had already spread throughout the family quarters, and he was probably the only one who didn't know.
Dong Jiaojiao knew that He Chengjun wouldn't agree to a divorce easily. Today's declaration was just a warning to help him get used to the idea.
Seeing that Dong Jiaojiao had stopped insisting on divorce, He Chengjun thought she was just jealous of Lu Yao and felt a bit smug. Especially when he saw Dong Jiaojiao's perfect profile, which seemed even more attractive with her fair skin, He Chengjun couldn't help but feel restless.
Suddenly, a loud growl interrupted his thoughts.
He Chengjun's rigorous daily training and physical exhaustion made him extremely hungry, especially since he hadn't eaten any of the buns earlier. It was only natural that he was starving now.
Remembering how Dong Jiaojiao had only cared about herself eating and had shown no concern for him, He Chengjun's tone was a bit unpleasant: "Is there anything to eat at home?"
If Dong Jiaojiao had any sense, she should have offered to cook for him instead of waiting for him to ask.
"There isn't!" Dong Jiaojiao's tone was even worse as she remained motionless on the chair.
Dong Jiaojiao had stored all valuable items, including food, in her space.
He Chengjun had seen earlier that there was indeed nothing to eat in the cabinet.
As for Dong Jiaojiao's attitude, He Chengjun thought she was still upset about Lu Yao and endured it, eventually turning to leave for Yang Hongwei's house next door.
Yang Hongwei's family of four was having dinner, and the table was set with the large meat buns Dong Jiaojiao had delivered earlier. Da Mao and Er Mao were eating with greasy faces.
Wang Cuihua hadn't planned to accept them at first. These were not some sweet potatoes or cucumbers, but finely made meat buns. However, Da Mao said Dong Jiaojiao would come by later to ask for help, and since the neighbor was entertaining guests, Wang Cuihua didn't want to interrupt, so she accepted them.
