◎ Some things just can't be learned ◎
Aside from Dong Jiaojiao, many people were hitching a ride into the city today.
Liu Ping saw Dong Jiaojiao's attire and, with curiosity, asked, "Xiao Dong, you're dressed so nicely today. Are you going on a blind date?"
"No, I'm just heading into the city to buy a few things. I haven't dressed up much; I just changed my clothes."
The job at the machinery factory wasn't guaranteed, so Dong Jiaojiao chose not to stir up any controversy by mentioning it.
Ma Ronghua chimed in with a smile, "That's true. Xiao Dong is so pretty that even a simple outfit makes her look like a fairy."
Qin Xiulian, another team leader's sister-in-law, suddenly said, "Xiao Dong, I have a distant cousin working at the research institute next door. I think you two would be a good match. How about we arrange a time to have a meal together?"
"Thank you, Aunt Qin, but I just got divorced. Going on a blind date right away wouldn't be appropriate. Let's forget about it."
"Why worry about just being divorced? He Shengjun is out with that vixen all the time. We're single, so why not?"
"Thank you, but really, it's not necessary." Dong Jiaojiao had been rejecting such suggestions lately.
Even Wang Cuihua had offered to set her up, as if afraid she might not find a match.
"Xiao Dong, my cousin is really a great guy..." Qin Xiulian persisted.
Seeing Dong Jiaojiao was genuinely not interested, someone else spoke up.
"Xiulian, you need to understand Xiao Dong's situation. Going on a blind date right after a divorce is indeed not appropriate. Let her have some time."
"A divorce isn't hard work. What's there to rest?"
"I meant let her rest emotionally, adjust her mindset and all."
"..."
It's common for neighbors to pressure someone into marriage when they reach a certain age. If anyone says they don't want to marry or have children, it's as if they've broken some law, and everyone in the neighborhood will try to convince them otherwise.
Dong Jiaojiao had no such thoughts. She liked children and wanted a happy family. However, there was no rush; she needed to find a place to stay as her current accommodation in the military district would soon be reclaimed. Marriage and dating could wait.
Dong Jiaojiao stopped talking, and the group started chatting about other topics, creating a lively atmosphere.
Suddenly, Dong Jiaojiao noticed Lu Jinzhou's car following closely behind the procurement vehicle, and he was driving himself, without the previously seen driver.
However, Dong Jiaojiao wasn't surprised, as Lu Jinzhou had mentioned yesterday that he had business at the machinery factory today.
She turned away, pretending not to notice him.
Upon arriving in the city, Dong Jiaojiao didn't make an effort to look for Lu Jinzhou. She took a bus to the entrance of the machinery factory.
With only five minutes left before the exam, Chen Yuanjiang had been waiting outside since early morning, more anxious than Dong Jiaojiao, fearing she might not make it.
As soon as he saw Dong Jiaojiao, he rushed over.
"Jiaojiao, you finally arrived. Quick, follow me to the exam hall. Everyone else is already inside."
