◎ Suspecting She Has Some Unmentionable Secrets ◎
Dong Jiaojiao carefully folded her divorce certificate and the IOU, tucking them into her pocket and then transferring them into her space. She was about to turn and leave when He Chengjun suddenly called out to her.
"Dong Jiaojiao, you need to clear out the house in the family compound soon. After all, you're no longer a military wife."
"I know," Dong Jiaojiao replied tersely.
"So, when are you planning to go back to your hometown? Since we were once married, I'll take you to the train station."
"He Chengjun, now that we're divorced, let's act like strangers. After you pay off the debt, we should never have to see each other again. My business is none of your concern!
And your affairs are none of mine either. You can be with whoever you want—Lu Yao, Huang Yao, Hong Yao—it's all up to you!"
"Dong Jiaojiao, how many times do I have to tell you that nothing is going on between Lu Yao and me..."
"Enough! I don't want to hear about your business anymore. Do whatever you want!"
With that, Dong Jiaojiao turned and left without a backward glance.
Now that she and He Chengjun were divorced, she no longer had to worry about Lu Yao trying to harm her. At least she wouldn't have to worry about being tricked by Lu Yao anymore.
When she returned to the family compound, Dong Jiaojiao saw the women from the building downstairs chatting and cooling off. She eagerly joined them.
Wang Cuihua was the first to notice her and handed her a handful of pumpkin seeds. "Jiaojiao, have some. These are homemade pumpkin seeds, still sweet from the pumpkin."
As their relationship had grown closer, Wang Cuihua now called her "Jiaojiao" instead of "Little Dong."
Although Dong Jiaojiao didn't like pumpkin seeds, she accepted them and then pulled out the freshly printed divorce certificate from her pocket.
"Sister-in-law, look, I just got my divorce from He Chengjun. From now on, I'm a free person and won't have to suffer any more grievances."
"What did you say!" Liu Ping immediately stood up and snatched the divorce certificate from Wang Cuihua's hand.
"Wow, it's true! You're really divorced!" Liu Ping looked at the freshly printed certificate with some emotion.
This was the first divorce in their building, definitely big news.
Some of the military wives who couldn't read also took a look and then expressed their shock and sympathy.
"Jiaojiao, you're so naive. Even though He Chengjun's health isn't great, my husband says he's about to be promoted to Battalion Commander. You're divorced now, so if you find someone else later, it will be a second marriage."
"Well, it's not a big deal. Little Dong is pretty. Even if it's a second marriage, she's still a fresh flower, not much different from a first marriage."
"Exactly, what's so great about being a Battalion Commander? He's not a general. Finding a man with two legs isn't that hard."
"That's right. There are plenty of young men around."
"Jiaojiao, how about I introduce you to someone? He's also a Battalion Commander in our military region, not lower in rank than He Chengjun, but... he has two kids."
"Forget it. I know that person. He's about to retire and won't be able to rise any higher. Will you have him take Little Dong back to the countryside to farm?"
