SUBJECTS
Eveline Wood stood in the dimly lit dungeons of Hogwarts, the familiar smell of damp stone and ingredients surrounding her as she leaned over her cauldron. Professor Snape prowled the classroom, his dark gaze making even the bravest students stiffen in their seats.
Eveline, however, was unbothered. She was surprisingly fond of potions, but she found Snape unbearable. the fact that it was one of the few classes shared with the Slytherins didn't help either. Next to her, Dean Thomas was carefully chopping ingredients. "How's your cauldron looking?" he asked, glancing at her potion.
"It's fine," Eveline replied with a shrug, though the shade of her potion was slightly off. She shot a glance at the instructions on the board, realizing she might've added too much of the wormwood essence.
Dean leaned over slightly, his expression sympathetic. "Need help fixing it?"
Eveline raised an eyebrow at him, suppressing a smile. "I'm not completely hopeless, you know."
Seamus, sitting on Dean's other side, snickered. "Careful, Dean. Offer to help Ev, and she might just hex you."
Eveline rolled her eyes, swatting lightly at Seamus' arm. "I don't need hexes to deal with you two." She stirred her cauldron again, trying to even out the inconsistency in the colour. "Besides, last time I checked, my potion didn't explode. Can't say the same for yours."
"Ah, but that's because I prefer a bit of excitement in my life," Seamus shot back with a grin.
Their light banter was cut short by the arrival of Snape, who loomed over their cauldrons with his usual air of disdain. He inspected Eveline's potion with a critical eye, his expression betraying nothing. After a tense few seconds, he moved on without a word.
Dean exhaled in relief. "Well, that's a good sign."
Eveline glanced sideways at him, a smirk playing on her lips. "Told you I didn't need help."
As class went on, the trio worked diligently, though the occasional sarcastic remark or joke from Seamus kept the mood light. Dean, ever the peacekeeper, would nudge Eveline when Seamus' teasing got a little too much, offering her a reassuring smile.
By the time class ended, they were packing up their supplies, Eveline couldn't help but notice Draco speaking quietly with Blaise Zabini at the far end of the room. Blaise caught her eye for a brief moment, his dark eyes unreadable, before he turned back to Draco. Something about the way they stood together made her uneasy. Blaise was one of the Slytherins she had never quite figured out—charming on the surface, but there was something darker beneath that allure.
Before she could dwell on it, Parvati came up beside her, practically bouncing with excitement. "Did you see Roger Davies at breakfast today?" she whispered, her eyes wide with glee. "He smiled at me!"
Eveline chuckled, shaking her head. "You're obsessed."
Parvati grinned, unabashed. "He's cute. You can't deny it."
"I never said he wasn't," Eveline replied, slinging her bag over her shoulder as they walked out of the classroom. "But you do realise he's a 3rd year Varti?"
"Yeah are you sure he was just smiling at someone behind you Parvarti?!" Seamus butted in
"Oh shut it Seamus this has nothing to do with you" Parvarti snapped back
Meanwhile, Herbology with Professor Sprout has become a highlight. The frist years are learning about magical plants with a focus on those that thrive in the Hogwarts environment. Lavender and Parvati are excited about the topic, particularly the Blast-Ended Skrewts, and they chatter about them endlessly.
