Hours later, the Romano headquarters stood as a formidable fortress, unaware of the impending assault. As the sun began to set, the Romano forces patrolled the perimeter, vigilant but overconfident. They had been led to believe that their enemies were scattered, their leadership crushed.
But the silence of the night was shattered by the distant roar of engines. The sound grew louder, and closer until a convoy of vehicles emerged from the shadows, led by Bella and Marco in the front. The Romano guards scrambled to respond, caught off guard by the sudden attack.
As Bella's forces charged forward, the Romanos attempted to defend their stronghold. Gunfire erupted, illuminating the darkness with flashes of light. Chaos reigned as bullets whizzed through the air, and the battle-hardened warriors clashed in a deadly dance of survival.
Amid the chaos, Bella's plan unfolded. As the Romano forces rushed out to engage, they fell into the trap. The headquarters doors began to close, sealing the fate of those left inside. Panic spread among the Romano ranks as they realized they were trapped and cut off from their stronghold and resources.
Marco's sharp eyes scanned the scene, identifying the Romano leaders as they fought desperately. Enzo led a squad with unwavering resolve, charging toward the heart of the battle. Bella's forces fought with a tenacity that spoke of their loyalty and desperation.
With a decisive nod, Bella triggered the shutdown sequence for the headquarters. The building's lights dimmed, and the Romano forces found themselves in darkness, their communications cut off. Panic gripped them as they realized the trap had been sprung.
Amid the chaos, Bella's forces regrouped, forming a perimeter around the building. The Romano forces were surrounded, outnumbered, and outmaneuvered. Vinnie's voice echoed above the chaos, rallying his remaining loyalists.
"Fight with every ounce of strength you have! For the Romano family!"
But the tides had turned, and it was clear that victory belonged to the Martinos. The battle raged on, but the Romano forces were slowly overwhelmed. Fighting alongside one another, Bella and Marco demonstrated their unwavering resolve and strength.
As the first rays of dawn painted the sky, the Romano forces finally began to crumble under the relentless assault. Enzo fought with the heart of a lion, along with the rest of the camp of the Martinos. Bella's forces pressed forward, closing in on the remaining enemies.
Vinnie's weary gaze met Bella's across the battlefield, a mixture of respect and regret in his eyes. With a final surge of strength, he charged forward, taking down several foes before succumbing to exhaustion and wounds. Bella approached him, her steps heavy, with a mixture of sadness and respect.
"You fought well, Vinnie," she said, her voice carrying a note of genuine admiration.
He managed a weak smile and breathed harder. "You... you were always... the better leader."
With a nod, Bella offered him a hand, and Vinnie grasped it, acknowledging the gesture. The battle was nearly over; the Romano forces were defeated. The streets were filled with fallen fighters, a testament to the cost of power and loyalty.
Marco fought with a strength he had not realized he possessed; fueled by his love for Bella, he killed anyone who stood in his way. When his rifle ran dry, he used his pistols; when those too ran dry, he used his knives; and when those dulled or broke, he used his fists. By the end of the battle, he was bloodied and battered, yet he stood tall. His left eye had taken a grizzly wound, leaving it blind. His armor was intact—the only thing that saved his life. His clothes were torn in places, revealing new scars and wounds, yet he dared not falter. He dared not fall or appear weak. Instead, he sought out Bella, whom he had lost in the fray. When he found her, he stood by her side, a silent reminder of the grim reaper that walked amongst the criminal underworlds. The bringer of death for those who would pay.
Bella was sitting on top of the stairs exhausted as Vinnie was wounded and humiliated next to her; he dared not to move, acknowledging her as his leader and asking that way silently for her forgiveness. At this dark moment, when everything around was a mixture of smoke, dust, and petrol, she saw Marco approaching her; his body was filled with wounds, and he was exhausted by the fight as he sat next to her.
"Well, I never knew a man who could say to me, I'll give the world, and for them to actually mean it. Today you did give me the world, Marco; you may never have promised it, but you did. You fought with your body so I could have what my heart desires. Thank you, my love." She leaned against his shoulders, kissing his arms while snuggling him.
He holds her tightly against him, keeping her close. "I may never have said it. But I intended it." He whispers, his voice hoarse and his breathing labored. "But I have one final task before the day is up. No one threatens the life and desires of the woman I love." He continues, staring at Vincenzo. "I would like nothing more than to snap that pathetic wretch's neck. To watch as his life drains from his eyes. But I will await the order. As a good soldier does." He looks at her, snuggling against him, and for the first time since he joined the mafia, he allows himself to smile while in the presence of other people.
She looked at him in disbelief as she saw his true and unfiltered self coming to the surface. "Are my eyes deceiving me? Are you smiling? Mr. Rousso, I had to start a whole arena fight and get stabbed for you to actually open up. So be it; it's more than worth it. Your trust and love were not easy to gain, but they are assets I will carry for life." she held his hand as she took a final look at Vincenzo, her eyes were filled with regret and sorrow.
But the decision had to be made. Vinnie was the reason this war had started; he was the cause of his father's death and Bella's wounds. She allowed herself to approach him and put his head on her legs as she was seated on the ground. Her fingers went through his hair, stroking it, as a few tears trickled down from her cheek, witnessing the pain she was experiencing. "I'm sorry," she murmured before she kissed his forehead tenderly. She got up with difficulty as a result of the fights she had undergone as she coldly gave the order before entering her building.
"Execute him."
Marco allowed himself one final grin, the last thing Vinnie would ever see before the sweet release of death took him. Marco knew the grin he had on was terrifying as he approached, picking Vinnie up by the throat and whispering, "You should have killed me when you had the chance." With that, he snapped Vinnie's neck, making sure to go so far as to turn his head 180 degrees on his neck before dropping the body and wiping his face clean of any emotion, slowly entering the building after Bella, walking towards her office.
