On the other side Lucien Monet moved through the darkened halls of the Continental like a shadow, his steps silent, his presence undetected. He had always been a master of stealth, but tonight, his skill was sharpened by the cold determination coursing through his veins. The time for subtlety was over. It was time to clean house.
He paused outside the main security room, listening to the low murmur of guards inside. They were relaxed, unsuspecting, confident in their numbers and the security of their fortress. Lucien knew their complacency would be their undoing.
With swift, lethal precision, Lucien burst through the door, his silenced pistol already spitting death. The first guard barely had time to register the intrusion before a bullet tore through his skull. The others scrambled for their weapons, but Lucien was faster. He moved like a phantom, his shots precise, each one finding its mark. In a matter of seconds, the room was silent, the guards' bodies slumped over their consoles.
Lucien didn't stop to admire his work. He had more to do. Moving to the security monitors, he quickly disabled the cameras, erasing all evidence of his presence. He then slipped out of the room, his senses alert for any sign of danger.
As he moved deeper into the heart of the Continental, he encountered more guards. Some tried to fight back, others attempted to flee, but none were a match for Lucien's deadly efficiency. He dispatched them all with ruthless precision, leaving a trail of bodies in his wake. His face remained expressionless; his focus unyielding. He was a man on a mission, and nothing would stand in his way.
As Lucien reached the grand staircase leading to the upper floors, he paused, wiping the sweat from his brow. He had taken down every guard in the building, clearing a path for what he knew was the final confrontation. But as he gazed up the stairs, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
And then, he heard it—a shuffling sound, faint but unmistakable. Lucien's hand tightened around his gun as he turned to face the source of the noise. Slowly, a figure emerged from the shadows, dragging itself up the stairs.
It was Alexander.
Bloodied, wounded, but still alive, Alexander Sinclair ascended the steps with grim determination. His clothes were soaked in blood, his face twisted in pain, but his eyes burned with cold fury. He spotted Lucien and stopped, leaning heavily on the banister as he caught his breath.
"Lucien," Alexander spat, his voice dripping with venom. "I should have known you'd be here. Cleaning up the mess, as always."
Lucien remained still, his gun lowered but ready. "I didn't expect you to survive, Alexander," he said coolly, masking the unease in his voice. "But it seems you're harder to kill than I thought."
Alexander chuckled, the sound harsh and grating. "You always were a coward, Lucien. Always hiding in the shadows, never brave enough to face things head-on."
Lucien tensed, his mind racing. Alexander was dangerous, even more so now that he was wounded. But there was something in his eyes, something that made Lucien uneasy. He knew Alexander was a man who thrived on power, and seeing him so vulnerable should have been satisfying. Yet, the way Alexander looked at him now, with that knowing, predatory gaze, sent a chill down his spine.
"I'm not here to fight you, Alexander," Lucien said carefully, keeping his tone neutral. "I'm here to help. We can still turn this around, control the damage. We can rebuild."
Alexander's eyes narrowed as he took another step closer, his hand subtly reaching into his coat. "Help? You think I need your help?" He laughed again, a cruel, mocking sound. "You've always underestimated me, Lucien. But I've known about your little games all along. You think you can manipulate me? Play both sides and come out on top?"
Lucien's heart pounded in his chest, but he forced himself to remain calm. "Alexander, you're injured. Let's get you to a doctor. We can discuss this later—"
"Discuss?" Alexander sneered, cutting him off. "There's nothing to discuss, Lucien. You've been a thorn in my side for too long. And now, it's time to remove you."
Before Lucien could react, Alexander drew his gun with lightning speed, aiming it directly at Lucien's chest. Lucien's eyes widened in shock, but he didn't have time to raise his weapon. A deafening gunshot echoed through the stairwell, and Lucien staggered back, clutching his chest as blood poured from the wound.
He collapsed against the wall, his vision blurring as he struggled to breathe. Alexander approached slowly, his expression cold and unforgiving. He knelt beside Lucien, his voice a low, deadly whisper.
"You thought you could outsmart me, Lucien. But in the end, you were just another piece on my board. And now, your game is over."
Lucien tried to speak, to say something, anything, but the words wouldn't come. His strength was fading, his life slipping away with every agonizing breath.
Alexander stood up, wiping the blood from his hands with a grim smile. He turned and began to walk away, leaving Lucien to bleed out on the cold marble floor.
Lucien's last thought, as the darkness closed in, was of how he had miscalculated, how he had underestimated the monster he had helped create. And as his vision dimmed, the sound of Alexander's footsteps echoed in his ears, growing fainter and fainter until there was nothing but silence.
