Lucien sat again in the familiar underground bar. His patience running out as waiting for Bella and Marco was a dangerous move. If everything went well and the enforcer kept his promise, they should make it to him safe, but that was a big if.
When Marco and Bella enter, Lucien's eyes flicker with interest. He gestures for them to sit, and they join him, their expressions tense.
"Lucien," Marco begins, leaning forward, "we need to know if we can count on you."
Lucien smirks, his eyes narrowing slightly. "You can always count on me—so long as it suits my interests."
Bella's gaze sharpens. "And what exactly are your interests, Lucien?"
Lucien takes a slow sip of his drink, savoring the moment. "To ensure that I'm on the winning side, of course. But don't worry, right now, that side happens to be yours."
Marco's expression remains guarded. "We need your help to take down Alexander. We can't do it without you."
Lucien nods, his smirk fading into a more serious expression. "Alexander has overplayed his hand. He's made enemies of too many people, and now it's catching up with him. I can get you close enough to finish this, but once you're in... you're on your own."
Bella's heart races as she listens, the weight of their mission pressing down on her. "What about his guards? We can't just walk in there and expect to survive."
Lucien's smile returns, but it's colder this time. "Leave the guards to me. I'll make sure they're... distracted. But once Alexander is dead, I'm out. I've no interest in whatever power struggle follows."
Marco and Bella exchange a look, understanding the unspoken truth: Lucien is only in this for himself. But at this point, they have no choice.
"Fine," Marco says, standing up. "Let's end this."
Lucien leads Marco and Bella through the dark, winding corridors of an old Continental stronghold, now under Alexander's control. The air is thick with tension, the silence broken only by the occasional echo of footsteps.
They reach a hallway just outside Alexander's main chamber. Lucien stops, turning to face them. "This is where I leave you," he says, his voice devoid of emotion. "I'll deal with the guards. You deal with Alexander."
Marco's eyes narrow. "And if you decide to double-cross us?"
Lucien shrugs, a ghost of a smile on his lips. "Then you'll be dead, and it won't matter, will it?"
Before Marco can respond, Lucien slips into the shadows, disappearing down the hallway. Bella feels a chill run down her spine, but she steels herself, focusing on the task ahead.
Marco reaches for the handle of the heavy door leading to Alexander's chamber. "This ends tonight," he murmurs, pushing the door open.
Inside, Alexander stands behind a massive oak desk, a self-satisfied smirk on his face. "I knew you'd come, Marco," he says, his voice dripping with arrogance. "You've always been predictable."
Marco steps forward, his gun in hand. "You're a dead man, Alexander."
Alexander laughs, a cold, mocking sound. "You think you can kill me? I'm untouchable. And once you're gone, Bella will be mine."
Marco's eyes blaze with fury, and without another word, he fires a shot. The bullet hits Alexander in the shoulder, spinning him around, but he remains standing, clutching the wound.
"You'll have to do better than that," Alexander sneers, blood dripping from his fingers. "But don't worry. I'll make sure Bella is well taken care of after you're gone." Without warning, Alexander draws his own gun and fires. Marco dives to the side, returning fire as he rolls to his feet. Bullets ricochet off the walls, the sound deafening in the enclosed space.
Bella watches in horror as the two men exchange fire, their movements quick and lethal. She wants to help, but she knows that getting in the way could mean certain death. Suddenly, a bullet grazes Marco's arm, and he stumbles back, his gun slipping from his grasp. Bella's eyes widen in fear as she sees Alexander's smirk grow wider.
"Marco!" she screams, rushing forward to protect him. In her panic, she grabs the fallen gun and points it at Alexander, her hands shaking.
Alexander's eyes narrow as he focuses on Bella, his expression shifting from amusement to annoyance. "Stay out of this, Bella. You've served your purpose."
Before she can react, Alexander lunges forward, shooting her arm and knocking the gun out of her hands. It skids across the floor, out of reach. Bella stumbles back, clutching her injured arm as she struggles to stay on her feet.
Marco, seeing Bella in danger, pushes through the pain and lunges at Alexander. The two men grapple, their movements desperate and brutal. But Alexander, fueled by cold calculation, gains the upper hand. With a swift, brutal move, he plunges a knife into Marco's side, twisting it viciously.
Marco gasps, his strength fading as he falls to the floor, blood pooling beneath him. Bella's scream pierces the air as she rushes to his side, cradling his head in her lap.
"Marco... no... please," Bella whispers, tears streaming down her face as she tries to stem the bleeding.
Marco's eyes, filled with pain and regret, meet hers. "I'm sorry, Bella... I couldn't protect you..."
Alexander, breathing heavily, watches with a cold, detached expression. He wipes the blood from his hands and steps closer, his eyes locked on Bella.
"You were nothing but bait," Alexander sneers, his voice dripping with contempt. "A pawn in my game to lure Marco out and kill him. All that nonsense about being obsessed with you? Just a ruse to make me seem foolish so no one would suspect what I was really after."
Bella's heart shatters at his words, the betrayal cutting deeper than any physical wound. She looks up at Alexander, her eyes blazing with fury and sorrow. "How could you? After everything..."
Alexander smirks, pulling out his gun as he steps closer to her. "You were always so naive, Bella. I never cared about you. You were just a means to an end."
Bella's gaze drops to the gun in Alexander's hand, and she realizes with a sickening dread what's about to happen. "You don't have to do this," she pleads, her voice trembling. "You've already won."
Alexander's smile is cruel and unyielding as he aims the gun at her head. "That's where you're wrong, Bella. This is just the beginning."
Without another word, he pulls the trigger. The gunshot echoes through the warehouse as Bella's world fades to black. She falls beside Marco, her lifeless body crumpling to the cold, blood-stained floor.
Alexander stands over them, his eyes devoid of any remorse as he surveys the scene. He holsters his gun, turns on his heel, and walks away, leaving behind the bodies of those who dared to challenge him.
