The hospital corridors were lined with sterile white walls, punctuated by the occasional splash of color from potted plants. Bella Martino walked with purposeful strides, her expression a mixture of concern and resolve. In her hands, she carried a bouquet of vibrant flowers, intended as a gesture of goodwill for Alexander Sinclair.
The news of Alexander's injury had spread quickly, and Bella, despite her own precarious position, felt it necessary to offer her support. Her mind was preoccupied with thoughts of the recent chaos and Alexander's sudden turn of events.
As she approached Alexander's hospital room, Bella paused, noticing the door slightly ajar. She could hear muffled voices from within. Curiosity piqued, she quietly slipped closer, straining to catch snippets of the conversation.
Inside the room, the atmosphere was tense. Alexander Sinclair was propped up in bed, the bandages still fresh and his face pale from the recent surgery. Lucien Monet sat in a chair beside the bed, his demeanor calm but his eyes sharp with scrutiny.
Alexander glanced at Lucien, his voice a low, deliberate murmur. "I never thought I'd end up in this position, but here we are. It seems even the best-laid plans can unravel."
"So, it's true then. You really did go through with it. The poisoning of Rafael Delgado, the bounty on Marco—everything. Why, Alexander? What's your endgame here?"
Alexander's gaze was unflinching, his voice steady. "The poisoning of Rafael was necessary. He was a threat to my plans. His continued presence would have jeopardized everything I've worked for. As for Marco, he's a loose end that needed to be tied up. I needed him out of the way, and unfortunately, the stakes were too high for mercy."
"And Bella? What about her? Does she know you were behind everything?"
A shadow of a smirk crossed Alexander's lips. "Bella will learn soon enough. She's caught in the crossfire of this, whether she likes it or not. She cannot afford to get caught up by her feelings, she loves Marco for sure, yet she has been in this for too long to act impulsively, one day she will understand the necessity of this."
Bella's breath caught in her throat as she heard Alexander's words. She pressed herself closer to the door, her heart pounding with shock and betrayal. She had been unaware of the full extent of Alexander's machinations, and the weight of his admission hit her like a hammer.
Lucien's voice cut through the air with a hint of frustration. "And what about your betrayal of Bella? Once she realizes it's you that has put a death contract of Marco she will be enraged. Your master plan of escaping together in the sunset will be gone".
Alexander's expression hardened; his voice cold. "In this world, there are no true allies, only shifting alliances. Bella is useful, but she's also a risk. My focus is on consolidating power and ensuring my position. Everything else is secondary."
Bella, stunned by the revelations, slowly stepped back from the door, her mind racing. The bouquet in her hands felt suddenly heavy, a symbol of a trust that had been shattered.
Inside the room, Lucien's gaze remained intense. "You may have your plans, but don't underestimate the fallout. The way you're handling this will have consequences."
Alexander gave a curt nod, a cold resolve in his eyes. "I'm prepared for whatever comes next. This is a high-stakes game, and I intend to win."
As Lucien stood up to leave, Bella quickly composed herself, hiding the bouquet behind her back. She took a deep breath, determined to face Alexander with a newfound clarity.
When Lucien exited the room, he barely acknowledged Bella, his mind occupied with the implications of Alexander's declarations. Bella, now alone with Alexander, entered the room with a facade of calm, her heart still racing.
"Alexander," she said, her voice steady but her eyes betraying a glimmer of hurt. "I brought you these." She placed the bouquet on a nearby table, her movements slow and deliberate.
Alexander's gaze softened momentarily, but the coldness in his eyes remained. "Bella. I didn't expect you so soon."
Bella forced a smile, her mind reeling from the revelations she had overheard. "I wanted to make sure you're alright. I heard you had a close call."
Alexander nodded, but his mind was clearly elsewhere, calculating his next moves. "Thank you for coming. It means a lot."
"I need to understand something," she began, her voice measured. "What's really going on here, Alexander?"
Alexander's eyes narrowed, a flicker of the old charm returning. "You will soon. Just know that I did what had to be done"
She casted a fake smile as she turned to leave, feeling worried and guilty for not believing Marco. Where is he? Is he safe? And for how long? Were all she could think.
