I stood in the darkness as I watched the man in front of me. The two of us had a sword in our hands as we glared at each other. His red eyes similar to my own bore into my soul as the danger was clearly present in my mind.
I know this is an important battle that I have no other option to win.
This battle dictates the fate of my world. I will not let it fall into the chaos he wants to create.
Still, thinking of the situation I am currently present at, it made me wonder. How did it end up like this? Across this journey, I have changed so much...
Right, it must've been twelve years ago when it all started. I remember it vividly.
Twelve years ago
Jukary, 16, 1471
I feel cold, wet, and pain. I was sitting on the dark floor of a prison cell as the cold chains restrained my wrists. Prison. I guess there's always a first time for everything.
I sighed as I looked in a puddle of water as I stared at my reflection on the water.
It's not difficult to recognize me. While I'm a guy who has black hair a bit wavy, which is common in the world and I look like a regular human, people always say it's easy to recognize me from my red eyes. To be fair, they are right, I've never met anyone else with red eyes. I stared at myself as I had some dirt on my face and ragged clothes. They weren't warm though since they were all wet. Still covered me well, though.
I won't lie, I am rightfully here. It's not everyday someone would try and steal the king's crown from one of the biggest kingdoms in the world. It was a good plan in my opinion, I did fail to take one thing into consideration, though... I guess that's what happens when I try to retire so early in my life.
My thoughts are interrupted when I heard footsteps in the prison as they got closer until I saw man in armor that covered his body and even a helmet that covered his head.
"Your time is up kid"
Hearing those words, the meaning behind them was obvious. Execution. If I don't think fast, my head will land in a basket for everyone to see. Not something I wanna be doing today.
The guard opened the cell and walked to me before using a key to unlock the chains from wrist.
Once the chains were removed from my wrists, only the cuffs remained.
The guard pulled me on my feet aggressively before he dragged me with him.
He dragged me through the whole prison until we got out.
When we cross the door leading out, the first thing I see was the light of the sun. It was dazzling and blinding, after a whole day in that dark dungeon, I can really say that seeing the light was great.
I didn't have much time to appreciate the light as the guard kept dragging me through the prison yard.
I was dragged to a set of doors that were rather big. The guard knocked on the doors and a after a few moments, they slowly opened.
As we entered through the doors, I recognized where we were.
It was the palace's indoors. All the shiny and spotless walls, the red carpet, and the decoration and chandeliers were unforgettable. After scouting these place for two weeks, I recognize the place well. If we continue forward, we will arrive at the throne room.
And that's what we do, he drags me in a straight line for what feels like five minutes before we reach a pair of open gates.
We enter to the room past the gates as it was definitely the throne room.
