It was the middle of the day. The three of us were riding through a path as we saw a city in the distance. Noxarius. The biggest human kingdom in the whole world. Legend has it that it was a hero from a thousand years ago that founded it. Also making it one of the oldest along with Elsker.
"There it is. The grand city they call it." Arcol commented.
After about another hour, we reached the gates of the city and I see a castle in the distance.
The royal palace. Where the Noxar family lives.
"Alright. Shall we hit the tavern before the guild?" I suggested.
The two looked at me with questioning looks.
"You want a drink at this hour?" Arcol asked.
"Not for drinking. Gossip."
"Gossip?" Divna asked.
Seriously?
"Geez, you guys are great fighters but not very good scouts, are you? Yes, gossip. We're entering the human city. There's probably no better gossip than that of a tavern in this city. So, what do you think?"
"What do we have to gain from it?" Divna asked.
I smirk upon hearing her question. Oh, my dear. You have no idea of the valuables we can find in a building full of drunks and idiots.
"If we're lucky, some drunken fool with jewels to pickpocket." I said with that same smirk.
"We are not here to steal from others." Arcol quickly refuted me.
Right. I forgot, the lawful good Arcol is.
"Fine. Fine." I sigh. "Best possible legal outcome is that we hear from some odd job that no one wants to take for a reason. And since no one wants to take it, the reward will be better and will have no competition."
"And if we're unlucky?" Arcol asked.
"We get a beatdown."
"You've been in a lot of those, haven't you?" Divna commented.
"Once or twice, yeah." I said.
After a while we found the tavern as we were standing outside of it and heard merry music and laughter from inside.
We hitch our horses on the post and walked to the entrance.
Just as I was about to open the doors, a man came out flying from the doors. I was able to step to the side quickly and avoid him, but he fell to the ground unconscious.
So early and a fight has started already?
"Yeah. This keeps getting better, huh." Divna comments sarcastically.
"Come on, this happens often in taverns."
"Don't let me catch you here again." I heard another voice. But this voice was familiar.
We turn to it and see it was Erik. Erik Kesler.
"Huh, ah, it's you." Erik commented.
"Oh, I remember you. Your name was Erik, was it not?" Arcol said to him.
"That is correct." Erik answered with a smile.
"What are you doing here?" Arcol asked him.
"Nothing much to be honest. Just having a drink." Erik said.
"I can see that. But I mean in the city. What brings you here?"
"Oh, that. I was just passing around, nothing more."
