Forty-nine: Darling?
!!!
Steve's car screeched to a stop, and everyone flooded out, their eyes trained on the abandoned house in front of them. It was blue and rickety, and every door or window was boarded up.
"Yeah," Steve spoke from behind everyone. "That's not creepy."
Steve was the first to head towards the house. Nancy followed next, then hesitantly, everyone else. Steve held a hand back towards Dustin, and the boy handed Steve a hammer. Nancy then repeated Steve's action, obtaining her own hammer. The two got to work on removing the nails from the boards on the door as Steve spoke. "I mean, what exactly are we supposed to be looking for in this shithole?" He asked, and Nancy took a moment to look at him, passing her work for just a moment. "We're not sure," she said as she resumed her work. "We just know this house is important to Vecna."
"Because Max saw it in Vecna's red soup mind world?" He asked, making Y/n tighten her grip on Max's hand. Nancy looked back to Steve, pausing again to respond. "Basically," she shrugged, and Steve nodded. Y/n's head turned to Dustin when he spoke. "Maybe it holds a clue to where Vecna lives. Why he's back. Why he killed the Creels. And how to stop him before he comes back for Max," the curly-haired boy suggested, and Y/n narrowed her eyes, speaking up. "Y'know, I find it kinda weird that everyone but Victor and Henry died. Especially Henry. His whole family gets murdered, but not him, he slips into a coma? Just that randomly? No, there's something more," she insisted, making Nancy pause her work for a few seconds in thought, then resuming as she spoke. "Yeah. It is."
"We don't think he's in here," Lucas spoke up, "do we?"
"Guess we'll find out," Max spoke up for the first time in a while, making her girlfriend glance over for a moment.
"Ready?" Steve muttered to Nancy, who hummed in agreement. "Mm-hmm."
They let the board fall, it landing with a loud thud that everyone flinched back at. Dust erupted from the floor as it fell, making Y/n cough a bit, fanning the dust away from her face. Everyone stared at the door. It was identical to Max's drawing. Stained glass with one red rose smack dab in the middle. Y/n looked to her girlfriend, giving her hand a squeeze when she saw her frozen state.
Steve tried the doorknob to no avail. "It's locked. Should I knock, see if anybody's home?"
"No need."
Everyone turned to look at Robin behind them, seeing the girl with a brick in hand. "I found a key."
Everyone backed up as Robin approached the door, bringing her hand back and launching the brick through the glass. As she moved away, Steve stuck his hand through the broken window, feeling around for the doorknob. After a moment, Y/n heard a click, and the door opened with a long creak of its hinges. It had obviously not been used in years. Dustin handed Robin a flashlight, catching Y/n attention. He handed one to her, and she handed it to Max. Dustin gave the girl another one, this one she used for herself, clicking it on.
Steve whistled as he entered the house, everyone slowly following after. Y/n's eyes wandered all over the house, observing every inch. Lucas tried to click a lamp on, but nothing happened. "Looks like someone forgot two pay their electric bills," he said, and Dustin clicked his flashlight on, making Steve furrow his eyebrows in confusion. "Where'd everyone get those?" He asked. Dustin spun around to look at him incredulously. "Do you need to be told everything? You're not a child."
