Fifty-one: Skull Rock

!!!

The car pulled onto the rocky path, allowing them to get a closer look.

People were surrounding the whole area, reporters swarming the new chief, cops inspecting the scene, and random people just trying to get a look.

The group was hurrying out of the car before it even came to a complete stop, all of them trying to see what happened or if they could catch a glimpse of Eddie somewhere.

"Come on," Nancy instructed. "This way," she said, sneaking behind a van as Chief Powell explained what had happened.

"… a homicide out here on the lake," Y/n heard Powell say once she tuned in. The man continued. "Officer Callahan here and myself arrived first on the scene. Uh, we made our way to the shore of Lover's Lake about ten yards from that house you see behind me. It was there that we found the victim." He flipped a page on his notepad. "An eighteen year old senior from Hawkins High, Patrick Mckinney," he revealed, and Y/n tensed. She knew that Patrick was Lucas's friend. She squeezed her eyes shut as she refrained from looking to Lucas.

"His limbs…" Powell began, and Y/n knew what was coming.

"His body. Uh, it was disfigured, and there were…" was all Y/n heard before she decided to block it put. She didn't want to hear it described again. Although, when she picked up another sentence, she listened again.

"We've also identified a person of interest."

Not Eddie. Please, not Eddie.

He held up a picture, and Y/n squinted to see it. The picture came into focus as Powell spoke. "Eddie Munson."

"Shit," Y/n couldn't help but mutter as the group all looked to each other.

"Oh, man," Steve added. "This is not good. This is really not good."

"Yeah, no shit, Steve!" Y/n whisper-yelled. The boy put his hands up in defense, and Y/n's eyes wandered to Lucas before she could stop them.

Y/n could tell that he didn't know how to feel. It was disbelief, if Y/n had to pick one word.

Y/n didn't listen to any of the chatter around her, but suddenly, one stuck out.

"Dustin, can you hear me? Wheeler?"

It was Eddie. His voice was coming through Dustin's walkie-talkie, and Y/n's eyes blew wide as Dustin scrambled for the device. When he grabbed the radio, Dustin started straying away from the van, the rest of the group following like ducklings. The boy spoke into the walkie with a hushed tone. "Eddie, holy shit. Are you okay?"

"Nah, man," Eddie's voice came through after a moment. "Pretty… pretty goddamn far from okay."

"Where is he?" Robin asked, seemingly ignoring Eddie's current state of mind. Dustin went along with it, pressing the button to speak again. "Where are you?" He asked, and Eddie replied instantly. "Skull Rock. Uh, D'you know it?"

"The makeout place?" Y/n asked, looking to Max, who shrugged in response. Dustin continued after sparing Y/n and Max a glance. "Yeah. That's near, uh, Cornwallis and--"
