PIHA'S POV :
[the next day] 24th September"Piha, can you like...take notes? Are you going to do this in OT tomorrow?" I turn my head towards Quadir who points at me or the knitting set up in my lap.
He's so silly oh my god!! Not like the professor is discussing anything useful right now. What would I write down exactly, prof's college hostel experiences? Pretty sure this isn't going to be asked in OT tomorrow.
I sigh and inform Quadir who still seems worried, "I don't need this useless information, okay? Plus you know right, how important it is for me to complete this final knot. I need to give it to him soon so stop disturbing me na what if I mess it up?It has to be perfect."
He shakes his head in defeat as I continue with the border of the arm band.
Band???
The one I'm knitting for him obviously. I'm pretty sure you guys know who him is. My favourite person come on!!
"Don't tell me this is for that Ansh guy...your crush?"
I widen my eyes, facing him now—I can't help but say, "I told you Quadir! I don't li-like him, he's not my crush."
Yes because he's the love of your life dumbass.
Okay but no one needs to know that. Not even Raghvansh himself.
"I wasn't born yesterday, Piha. It's fine if you don't want to tell me, I know you have your reasons." He looks at me curiously.
"It's not like that..." If I say it out loud it's gonna start feeling real.
And I won't be able to deny my feelings for him any longer, but how can I like him? How can I love him?
He's supposed to be in my life forever...as a friend and I don't want to ruin it for these meaningless feelings that might mess up the relationship we have right now.
Anyways!!
Keeping these saddening thoughts away—I do what is the most important thing right now aka complete the final stitch.
Okayy. Done finally!
I can't help but turn to the only person who is qualified enough to judge my artwork or gift if I have to say, "Quadir, I'm done with the band. Can you tell me how it looks, please? Like it's not too much right??? I hope the heart doesn't look too tacky. I hope he'll like it..."
He looks at the said woven cloth for a few seconds and gets back to me- "it's sooo pretty. Also, no the design doesn't look tacky on the other hand it's quite adorable. Stitching a heart and stuff...come on now are you still going to deny your crush on him?" He says only for me to awkwardly scratch the back of my neck.
Like is it really that obvious???
"Also why the C stitch next to the heart?Does his name start with C or something? That's quite rare."
I shake my head at his words- "nopeee Quadir. He's the captain of his team and most of his bands have a C stitched on them so I thought it would be nice if I did the same."
Guys.
It's not very likely but I hope Quadir doesn't figure out that the 'Ansh guy' is actually Raghvansh. No one's gonna take me seriously even if they find out.
They might see this as a parasocial relationship between me and my celebrity crush.
Which I wish...was the reality.
"Captain??? What does he play tho–" his doubts are interrupted as Professor Sawant gets up from the lecturer's seat
"That's it for today, students. See you in OT tomorrow!" He exclaims only to receive a collective sigh. Does it look like any of us would be happy to see him in hospital tomorrow?
Without waiting I do what I have been waiting to do since the beginning of this Ortho and Traumatology lecture that is to grab my bag and rush out of the class. I'll just inform Quadir over WhatsApp that I'll be back from hostel in a jiffy after I change my outfit—because I cannot go to the airport looking like this.
I mean of course I can go to the airport but I definitely can't face the Indian team's captain this way.The hostel is just a couple of minutes away and before I realise—I'm in my room putting on the red strapped knit top paired with the sheer floral skirt along side the unbuttoned cardigan which is somehow too thin for the temperature.
The top ends above my skirt exposing some part of the abdomen skin. I complete the outfit with a pearl necklace and the Lauren Ralph Lauren handbag that Di gifted me on my 23rd birthday.
Quickly applying the red tinted lipstick and lip gloss, I wear my casual shoes then waiting for Quadir at the entrance of the mixed post-graduation hostel.
