One year later
The penthouse apartment was a perfect blend of their distinct personalities, a harmonious mix of Enid's vibrant energy and Wednesday's gothic elegance. The sleek black countertops and white walls provided a striking contrast, while the deep black wooden dining table stood as a centerpiece, adorned with colorful plants and Enid's eclectic trinkets. The large windows offered a breathtaking view of the Upper East Side of Manhattan, the city bustling far below.
Enid was busy in the kitchen, humming softly as she arranged hors d'oeuvres on a polished silver tray. She wore a smart but colorful outfit, the bright hues standing out against the modern, monochrome decor of their home. As she carefully placed slices of cheese and crackers, a Sphynx cat leapt gracefully onto the counter, his wrinkled skin almost blending in with the sleek surface.
"No, Thing! Not today!" Enid scolded gently, scooping up the cat and cradling him in her arms. Thing purred contentedly as Enid carried him over to the living room area, with its gorgeous leather couches and an array of family portraits Wednesday had shipped over from France. The portraits added a touch of old-world charm to the modern space, each frame a testament to the rich history of the Addams family.
Enid settled Thing onto his plush bed and gave him a gentle pet before heading back to the kitchen. Just as she began to arrange the last of the hors d'oeuvres, she heard the soft sound of footsteps and looked up to see Wednesday emerging from her office. She wore a sleek black dress that hugged her figure perfectly, her dark hair cascading over her shoulders.
"You look absolutely gorgeous!" Enid exclaimed, her eyes lighting up at the sight of her.
Wednesday's lips curved into a small smile. "Hello, Enid," she greeted, her voice as smooth and captivating as ever.
Enid walked up to Wednesday and kissed her, a soft, lingering kiss that conveyed all the love and affection she felt. "I've missed you today," she whispered against Wednesday's lips.
Wednesday's eyes softened as she looked at Enid. "And I've missed you," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
Wednesday moved to the counter and started helping Enid with the food. Her movements were precise and efficient, a stark contrast to Enid's more relaxed and whimsical approach. But together, they worked in perfect harmony, each complementing the other's strengths.
"How was your day?" Enid asked, slicing a cucumber.
"Productive," Wednesday replied, carefully arranging olives on a plate. "I managed to finish the first draft of the new novel."
Enid beamed at her. "That's amazing, Wednesday! I can't wait to read it."
Wednesday's expression softened again, a rare display of emotion. "And how was your day, Enid?"
"Busy but good," Enid said, glancing around the kitchen. "I had a meeting with my editor this morning, and we finalized the layout for my latest article."
"I'm proud of you," Wednesday said, her tone sincere. "You're doing incredible work."
Enid felt a warm flush of pride at Wednesday's words. "Thank you. It means a lot to hear you say that."
They continued working side by side, the kitchen filled with the soft sounds of their movements and the occasional clink of dishes. The afternoon light streamed through the large windows, casting a warm glow over the space. It was moments like these, the simple yet profound acts of domesticity, that Enid cherished the most.
After they finished preparing the food, Enid stepped back to admire their work. "Everything looks perfect," she said, turning to Wednesday with a smile.
