Clinic #2

Before I know it, Friday is already here. Which means it's time for me to plan another clinic. That is, if none of the guys tell me there's something specific they want to practice. I don't really expect them to. The last clinic may have gone well, but that doesn't mean the team is completely sold yet. Which puts me in a difficult position. I'm in the mood to lead them through a tough workout, with me doing it alongside them of course, but I'm scared that people won't want to come again if my workout whoops them. Or maybe I'm underestimating them.

"Lily, come on." Yahaba grabs my backpack and tows me out of the courtyard. He has dragged me to eat lunch with him and Watari every day since Tuesday, a fact I'm secretly happy about. Sitting by myself in the courtyard for the rest of the year isn't all that appealing.

"Yahaba-kun!" I take a few long steps to walk alongside him. "Anything you want to work on at the next clinic?"

He shrugs, then looks me in the eye. "Not really. I'm pretty sure you can plan something better than I can."

His gaze is always so intense. It's sort of unsettling.

"Hmmm." We sit down at the table with Watari and I eat my sandwich in thoughtful silence. "Say, what would you guys think of doing a workout on Monday? I'd do it with you of course, but I want it to be tough. Do you think people will still come?"

"You know, Lily-kun," Watari points his chopsticks at me. "For someone who's so cool, you sure do doubt yourself a lot."

I feel my cheeks flush and I narrow my eyes.

The libero continues, "Whatever you plan is going to be fine, so stop worrying."

"What? How am I supposed to do that?" I challenge him.

He shrugs.

I lower my eyes. "The team doesn't really trust me yet, you know? I can't risk driving people away—"

"A little workout isn't going to drive us away, Lily," Yahaba shakes his head at me.

"A little workout!" I exclaim indignantly.

"Honestly, if you think it would, that's just dumb."

My anger flares. "Well, let me tell you something, Mr. Yahaba. This workout is not going to be little at all. You'll be so sore, you won't be able to sleep without your muscles hurting for the next week!"

Yahaba smirks and Watari laughs. I ignore them both and begin compiling a list in my head of the most brutal exercises I can think of.

By the end of practice, I've come up with a full workout plan that incorporates exercises that will both strain the boys' cardiovascular endurance and train their muscles with volleyball-like movements. Now I just need to do a test run, which I plan to do once everyone is gone from the gym.

That might be a while though, since Oikawa seems to practice for an eternity. Some of the other third-years have hung around too, but their practice is much more laid back.

I'm shagging balls for Oikawa while he serves, because that's what a good manager would do.

When he finally takes a break to get some water, I walk up to him. "So, are you going to be practicing here much longer? Or..."

"Oh, sorry, Lil-chan—"

"Lillian," I interject.

"—You don't have to stay here when I'm practicing late. Though I would certainly enjoy your company." He winks at me.
