Every member of the team shows up at the gym after classes for my clinic. The turnout makes me a little nervous, since this is the first time all of them have attended. But I try to push the nerves aside and focus on getting in the zone.

I clap my hands together. "Alright, team! Sorry to keep you in the dark about this clinic, but here's what will go down. I have challenged your very own Captain, Oikawa-san!" I fling out my arm to where Oikawa is on my right, "And your Vice-Captain, Iwaizumi-san!" I mimic the same gesture on my left, "To a competition of skill! Oikawa-san will serve five volleyballs, full power, at water bottles set up as targets. I will then do the same. On the tennis courts." I pause to let the interested murmurs start. Then I continue, "We will compare our accuracy. The loser will buy mochi ice cream for the team." This time, the excited yells of teenage boys cut me off. I grin and wave my hands above my head. "Then!" I yell, "Iwaizumi-san, with Oikawa-san setting for him, will spike five balls at water bottles set up as targets on the court. After his performance, I will hit five overheads on the tennis courts. We will compare our accuracy, and the loser will—" I stumble to a stop, realizing I didn't pick out a punishment for the second part of the competition. "Will be subject to a punishment of your choosing!" Their cheers scare me. "Within reason!" I add, though that doesn't seem to subdue them much. Hopefully that doesn't come back to bite me. "Oikawa-san, feel free to begin warming up."

Watari volunteers to set up the water bottle targets and keep score for each of us. Once Oikawa is warmed up on his serves, Watari places a bottle near the far right corner of the court.

Oikawa looks at it, then at me. "You ready for this, Lil-chan?"

I flash him an evil smile. "Don't go easy on me, Captain."

He winks, then tosses the ball and performs a picture-perfect approach, sending the ball zooming toward its target. The water bottle didn't stand a chance.

I grimace. If he hit the first one that easily, I might be in trouble.

Watari changes the target.

Oikawa misses the water bottle on his next two attempts, then nails the last two.

I curse under my breath. Three out of five on full power serves is an incredible score. The team looks at me and I put on my confident face. "Okay, I'll have to beat Oikawa-san's score of three out five. Out to the tennis courts!" I shoulder my tennis bag and lead the jog out to the courts. Pulling out a few balls, I warm up my shoulder with normal serves and work up to a full power swing, then gesture for Watari to set the first target. I point my racquet menacingly at Oikawa. "Five out of five. Right here."

He just smiles, though it feels like more of a sneer.

I glare at him. Grabbing a ball, I keep my eyes on the water bottle until I toss, coiling back to unleash my swing. The ball bounces a foot away from the target. And in the other service box. I growl. I was focused on my emotions rather than the serve. "Well, four out of five will do just as well, I suppose."

Except I miss the next one too, my serve landing a couple inches to the left of the new target. Watari moves the water bottle. I take a deep breath. I have to hit this one. But if I think like that, there's no way I'll succeed. I close my eyes and imagine an opponent on the other side of the net. No, not just any opponent. I imagine Oikawa holding a racquet. I really want to beat him. The water bottle is in the right corner of the service box, so I imagine Oikawa standing too close to the middle line, making that corner the best target to ace him. I open my eyes to the water bottle only and slowly shift back into my toss. I jump with my arm cocked and grunt as I swing with all my might. The water bottle goes flying.
