Chapter Seventeen

As Jeongyeon makes her way back to her group, she was surprised to see Kim-chul there. However, she wasn’t surprised to see how fucked up he looks right now and as she quietly walks up from behind, she smacks his head from behind.

“Jeongyeon unnie!” Song-i exclaims in relief as soon as she saw the older woman.

“Raid captain!” The other Hunters exclaims their relief as well upon seeing her back.

“You talk big for someone who left their comrades behind.” Jeongyeon sneered at Kim-chul. “You’re not only just trash but you come back with dead weight.”

“D-Dead weight…?” The other Hunters repeated in question as Jeongyeon turns around while standing in front of the group.

“How about you guys remove your stealth?” Jeongyeon spoke even though it looks like she is talking to air. “What’s the point of doing it when you can’t even hide your powerful energies?”

Slowly, the group of Hyakki have revealed themselves which frightened the Hunters. “So, that’s the boss…” Jeongyeon commented quietly as she stared at the largest Hyakki of the group that was riding a horse. “Quite the chilling energy…”

“There really was one.” The leader spoke, “A useful human among the trashes.”

Jeongyeon glared at the leader. “Huh?” she scowled. “Did you just call us trashes just now?”

The leader tilted his head in surprise. “You speak our language?” he asked.

Hee-jin looks at Jeongyeon who was surprised. “Jeongyeon, you can speak the language of the monsters?”

An effect from the system perhaps? Jeongyeon thinks of the possibility.

“To be able to converse… How wonderful.” The leader smiled as he gestures to the same Hyakki with long hair. “I’d like you to meet someone and I believe that you already have been acquainted with one another. He is the one who had notified us of your existence, the one who is strongest among the humans.”

Jeongyeon’s eyebrow twitch in annoyance when she saw the familiar face. “Oh… it’s you.” She muttered, lowly.

“This one wanted to face off with you, so…” but before the leader could finish his sentence, Jeongyeon had already beheaded the Hyakki in just a blink of an eye.

Jeongyeon turns around. “You got anything else to say?” she asked the leader.

The leader looked at her before smiling menacingly. “You are a very amusing human, no?”

Jeongyeon and the Hyakki leader’s dagger clashed with one another before Jeongyeon jumps back to standing in front of the group. Well, this guy is not gonna give up his life that easily. Jeongyeon thinks.

“I have a proposal and don’t worry, it’s not detrimental for you.” The leader told her. “However, I have a question… how come you’re with the humans despite not being a human yourself?” He questioned.

Jeongyeon furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. “What the hell are you talking about?”

The leader laughs at her response. “It seems you are not aware of it. Inside our heads, there is a voice that is speaking to us constantly; to kill humans.” He explained. “But it seems that there is no voice in your presence.”

A voice…? Jeongyeon wonders. Something similar to the system?

“Must we fight when we are the same? To avoid unnecessary casualties, hand over the humans behind you to us.” The leader suggested. “If you do that then we will spare your life, how about it?”
