Her dark brown hair wiped around her face as she rode the horse fast through the sandy desert, a dig sight in her view. She rode beside a professor and a few of his men.
"You're a couple days late, Professor." She heard a familiar voice call out to Winson, the Professor. "I was begining to think you'd run into bandits."
"Oh, my dear fellow, thank you for the concern." Wilson shook the mans hand. "I actually did run into someone though."
"Alex!" She ran forwards after hearing her queue. "How is my favourite cousin?"
"Meira? It's so good to see you." Alex brought the small woman into a tight hug, missing his favourite cousin as he had been away.
"Wow, your hair has gotten longer since I last saw you over two years ago, was it?" Meira ruffled his hair like a dog, laughing as he swatted her hand away.
"Are you thirsty?" He addressed both the Professor and his cousin, leading them further into the camp.
"Oh, yes, please." Wilson took the canteen off the young man, drinking it happily. "Thank you."
"You know, when I saw you standing up there, I thought I was looking at your father." The Professor patted Alex's shoulder proudly. "You really are Rick O'Connell's son."
"Yeah, well, hopefully after today, he will be known as Alex O'Connell's father." Alex grinned, looking down at the statue they were digging out the sand.
"Hey, at least your father is not a Chieftain and Commander of the Medjai." Mei shrugged her shoulders, thinking about her family back in Egypt.
"I'll give you that." He grinned, patting her head before leading them over to the dig sight.
"Oh, what a powerful face." Wilson stared in awe at the small part that had been dug up. "When I had told my colleagues at the museum that you had discovered the Colossus, they were thrilled. Yes, however-"
"I know." Alex nodded in understanding as Meira stood there dumbfounded. "When am I gonna get in that tomb?"
"Soon." Meira smiled at her cousin, patting his back reassuringly. "I know it."
"Don't let the buggers get you down." The Professor scoffed at the thought of the comments Alex had been receiving. "It was you that discovered the Bembridge journal, and with it you'll discover the emperor. I have complete faith in you, Alex."
"We both do." The Egyptian added, grinning at them both. "Now let's go find a dead guy!"
With that said Meira ran down the sandy hill and picked up some tools, helping push the sand away from the statue.
"We found it! We found the door!" Men shouted hurriedly. Meira dropped the tools she had only just picked up and raced over to the cheerful men.
People began to set up explosives at the door way and Alex dragged is starstruck cousin away from soon to be explosion. Once the dust had cleared, they walked into the torch lit tomb.
"Watch out!" Alex yelled, pushing Wilson out the way as a wooden post swung down from the ceiling, intended to kill the unlucky soul who stepped on the trap.
"Emperor did not want any house guests." Meira joked, walking around the trap and towards the two men.
"Stay together." Alex said, walking forwards, further into the tomb. The men cocked their guns as they saw a body standing against a column, they could only see his arm but advanced cautiously.
"Sir Colin Bembridge." Alex gasped, taking the hat off the knife impaled man. Meira griminced as the skeletons head fell off and into Alex's arms. "He went searching for this tomb 70 years ago. They left him like this as a warning."
"Unfortunately, this is not the dead man that's gonna make us famous." Wilson informed him. "Let's keep moving."
Meira shrieked as she stepped down and the stone beneath moved causing panels in the roof to open, sand flying in. Alex grabbed her arm and dragged her next to him, protecting her from incoming sand. That is when an army of stone soldiers appeared in front of them, an important discovering.
A sudden fear struck Meira as she glanced around, her heart telling her something bad was going to happen if the ventured any further.
