-TORI'S POV-
I knew Jade had a soft side! It might be buried under layers of sarcasm and a scowl, but it's there. The incident with Daniel proved that.
It's been a week since that night, and while things are still a bit tense, we're all starting to settle back into some form of normalcy. Well, as normal as life can be at Hollywood Arts.
Cat obviously broke up with Daniel. She didn't need much convincing after she learned the truth. It was a rough few days, but with some support of us, she's been bouncing back. Today, she's her usual bubbly self again.
Sikowitz's classroom is buzzing with its usual energy. Beck is paying attention to the improv exercise. André is tuning his guitar, Cat is bouncing up and down in het chair next to him. I spot Jade across the room, her dark eyes focused on her black notebook, which she decorated with white hand lettering in different fonts.
Sikowitz claps his hands, drawing everyone's attention. "Okay, let's talk about theater! Would anyone be interested in seeing the cast list for our end-of-the-year musical?" He wiggles his eyebrows and the paper with the cast list in his hands.
There is a collective hum and a few "Yeah's" and "You know it!" from the class.
Sikowitz grins, clearly enjoying the moment. "Alright, I won't keep yo—".
"I got the lead, right?" Jade's voice cuts through the classroom. I turn my head to the left and see she's closed her notebook, her full attention now on Sikowitz.
"Pardon?" he responds, looking slightly taken aback.
Jade leans back in her chair, crossing her arms. "I'm playing Sophie, right?"
Sikowitz clears his throat, a nervous chuckle escaping. He starts mumbling something unintelligible, then he bails out of the back door of the classroom, leaving a piece of paper on the ground.
The room falls silent for a moment, everyone staring at the door Sikowitz just fled through.
"Well, that was... dramatic." André says, breaking the silence.
Jade immediately gets up and walks over to pick up the paper. She looks at it with a controlled expression.
"Did you get the lead?" Cat asks her.
Jade's head snaps up. She scrunches the paper into a ball, throws it to the side angrily, and finally kicks the chair that was standing next to her.
She's fuming.
"I don't think she got it." André says, stating the obvious.
"So who's playing Sophie?" Robbie asks.
I get up and grab the ball of paper, my face scrunched in confusion. If Jade didn't get the lead, then who did? She's an amazing actress, and nobody could— Oh shoot...
"Me." I say hesitantly.
The room goes silent, and all eyes turn to me. I can feel the weight of their gazes, especially Jade's.
"Yeah, her! That!! SHE got the lead!" Jade spits out, her voice dripping with venom.
"Well, what part did you get?" Cat asks her.
"I, got cheated and humiliated." Jade says dramtically.
"You get used to it." I hear Sinjin tell her.
I stand frozen, still holding the crumpled paper. I've landed the lead in a big musical at a school I just transferred to, which is huge but also a little overwhelming. I mean, what do I know about acting?! Sure, I performed the bird scene that was required for auditions and enjoyed it, but I'm not sure if I'm better than Jade. Besides, I was just on her good side and she makes it pretty clear she's not amused by this situation.
