Mingyu was engrossed in his work, his fingers flying across the keyboard as he responded to emails and reviewed department reports. His phone buzzed beside the laptop, and without taking his eyes off the screen, he picked it up when he saw his mother's name flash across the display.

"Yes, Mother?" he answered, his tone neutral.

"Mingyu, I heard Seungkwan is at your place. Is he alright?" Hyorin's worried voice came through the phone.

"He's fine," Mingyu paused, trying to choose his words carefully. "He just needs some time alone. He was still asleep when I left for work."

"Oh, I'm glad you two are so close. But I hope you can wait until the wedding, you know. It won't be that lo—"

"Mother," Mingyu interrupted, his voice strained. "Whatever you're thinking, it's not like that. We're both still shocked by the news, and he just needs a place and some space—from both of you. From Aunt Sohee and you."

"Eh? Is Seungkwan upset with me because of the matchmaking? But... why? Aren't you two—"

Mingyu sighed heavily. "I've told you to stop this matchmaking. Not everyone wants to marry me. And how many times do I have to tell you that I won't—"

"Why won't you remarry, Kim Mingyu?" Hyorin's voice sharpened with frustration. "Don't tell me you still have feelings for that pretty ex-husband of yours. Or I swear—"

"Mother, please. I'm working. This is not the time for this conversation. So please, excuse me." Mingyu quickly ended the call, tossing his phone aside and massaging his temples.

He leaned back in his chair, trying to calm the anger brewing inside him. His mother's constant interference, especially her disdain for Jeonghan, was exhausting. Was Jeonghan right when he said his mother wouldn't stop until he married Seungkwan? Would marrying Seungkwan really keep his relationship with Jeonghan safe?

Mingyu's thoughts drifted to what Seungcheol had told him the night before during their squash game. Seungcheol's serious expression was still fresh in Mingyu's mind. "Maybe you know a lot about Seungkwan from when you were kids, but I was the one who's been with him through his teenage years until now. I know everything he's gone through. If you decide to marry him, please treat Seungkwan well. Be a good husband to him, and I beg you, never—ever—hurt him, Mingyu. But if you think you're not that kind of person, then cancel our mothers' plans... right now."

"The last thing I want in my life now... is for Seungkwan to have an unhappy marriage."

Seungcheol's words echoed in Mingyu's head, intertwining with his mother's relentless matchmaking, making his head throb with tension.

The intercom on his desk suddenly rang. Mingyu sighed before pressing the accept button.

"Yes?" he answered.

"Sir, I'm sorry. Someone is here requesting to meet you as soon as possible..." Yunjin's voice trembled slightly.

Mingyu frowned. Who would dare demand a meeting like that without an appointment? "Who is it? Did he not make an appointment?"
